Yeah since they are probably the only band from the 80's outside of maybe Priest on a good day that and King Diamond that can make an album relative to Metal in 2006

50/100

I'm not expecting an album's like Maiden's 1985 (maybe because Maiden didn't release an album that year), I'm just expecting good songs.

Also, the rate is after two spins, so it may change but, so far, I find the three 1rst songs rather boring... what I loved is the Black-Sabbathy/Rainbowy feel it has... a nice change of pace but not really a revolution...

btw, does anyone else think those smileys are ugly ?

hahaha, dont rate it after two listens dude!

Stefan, are Maiden experimental, would you say? And agreed on the smileys, I think the old ones were better. I miss my blood-vomiting.

Just for the record, Stefan has used many of these smileys in the past linking them from other boards. Now they're ugly?

I still don't have it. I only had enough money to get BG's new album on the 5th. I have to wait until I get paid again

Really dude? Wow. I would give it probably a 7/10 or 7.5. Some songs are too long and they lose it at the end, but the songs that are good are really fucking killer and I think Bruce sounds really freaking good on this album. Especially on Brighter then a Thousand Suns and These Colors Don't run. I am a pretty big Maiden freak though and it is really the only band from my childhood I still buy albums from.

I honestly think this album is what Steve wanted to do with Blaze and he finally got Bruce to sing it for him.

Yep I agree. The songs have a Blaze era feel to them.

Yeah, I say 50/100. I say this because I feel like almost every song could be cut in half and be made a better song. I can appreciate the epic feel of it, but there's little variation in structure. It's like they used to same template for almost every song. I just think it's mediocre overall with some really great moments.

Well I was farely new to maiden(I owned Peace of Mind only) before hearing , A Matter of life and death, and all I can Say is I absolutely LOVED IT! it's an 85/100 for me.

I now have purchased the essential maiden albums ( number of the beast, powerslave and Seventh Son ) and it Still is one of my favorites by them. Weird how point of views can vary.

So, for those who have the version with the promo DVD, is the DVD any good?

I'd give it 8.5/10. Absolutely great album. Best since 7th Son (somebody already said that).

It's true how people compare their new stuff with the older ones and then rant about it. I was one of them. But I realised Maiden is taking a whole new turnover. Not that I'm sad. As long as they're producing good stuff, I'm supportive. Plus theyve been around for nearly 30 years. I'm sure it bores them to play anything that sounds like their older material. They're experimental. That's good.
