Just checked the encyclopedia and it seems the new album is out. Anyone heard it yet and if so how is it ? This band is yet to release a bad album.

I've heard it about 5 times now. It's certainly vintage Mob Rules. If you're hoping for something different, you won't get it here. They've got their tried and true formula and they're sticking to it. Die hard Mob Rules fans will love this cd, although it hasn't quite grabbed me yet the way Hallowed By Thy Name and Among The Gods did. To be fair though, the album is still sinking in at only 5 listens.

For those who don't know, Mob Rules is an old school metal band with high pitched vocals and lots of keyboards. If extreme is your game, look elsewhere. In fact, the production is so polished and clean that at times it sounds more like melodic metal than heavy metal. The guitars and keys are mixed about even, giving them an AOR-like sound that would have fit very well on radio back in the 80s.

Songwriting is suberb though, if you can handle a little candy with your metal.

Adult Oriented Rock, like Magnum, Rainbow (after Dio left) and Journey for example.

Good description and one that i agree on. I always thought Mob Rules as very keyboard driven melodic power metal like Power Quest but heavier. But if i had to recommend some similar bands i'd say Manigance and Morifade. MR were always good at writing catchy tunes and their albums aren't that different but they are good at what they do and i wouldn't want them to change. Among The Gods had great songs but was more mid-paced and didn't have very good replay value because of the lack of speed. Is Ethnolution faster than ATG ?

No, sorry to report, there is very little of the speedy stuff, it's mostly mid-tempo with speedy parts here and there. I think you'll just have to get used to the mid-tempo if you want to keep listening to MR, as they are distancing themselves more and more from speed metal tempos.

I like that personally, but I grew up in the 80s and love the mid-tempo metal.

I really liked Among The Gods, so I'm definitely getting this.
