Ron Jarzombeck : Watchtower, Spastic Ink, S.A. Slayer, propably the most insane guitar player ever!

Another personal fave : Jeff Scott Sotto! Malmsteen, Axel Rudi Pell, Talisman, Kuni, Kryst the Conqueror, Panther, Steel Dragon, he sang some of the greatest metal tunes ever!

I wouldn't really call him an outstanding musician. Good but not great keyboard player and a good vocalist that can't really pull it off live.

Well he is unique, and he can write music very well, because being very techniquely skilled isnt everything

I have to say I partially agree. I think Tony did a good job on For the Sake of Revenge, but to me, he's always been in the upper-middle of the pack for PM vocalists - better than many, but not among the best.

He is the voice of the band though and chief songwriter, so I could never imagine anyone else in the role, nor would I want there to be.

My biggest problems with the band (not really big ones since I am a pretty big fan) are the too-repetitive drums and the bass, but since bass is hardly a major factor in most PM bands, I would really be digging to complain about that :P

Sonata Arctica = :dio:

and no one's surprised.

He's a great player, but I wish he'd be more involved in songwriting.

I have to mention Steve Harris, for his playing and also the fact that he's a chief songwriter.

+1

To me, I think Harris is a genius. I'm a bassist myself and basically I look up to 2 bassist only, Steve Harris and Cliff Burton (RIP). I'm not saying the rest are mediocre, but just that these 2 fellas influneced my life a lot.

As in talented musicians:
Michael Romeo
Malmsteen (he does bore me a little though)
Steve Harris :dio:
Cliff Burton :dio:
Richie Blackmore
John Lord
Ian Gillan
Freddy Mercury (his voice is his instrument)
John Bonham :dio:
Les Claypool
Nicholas Barker
Scott Lavender (the guy who played 'The Piano Tribute to Iron Maiden)
Kenny G-string?
Apocalyptica (all 3 of them)
Toni Iommi
Geezer Butler

I'll stop here. But there's more, of course.

Uuuuh, yeah, I could go watch that DVD that I own again, I could....or I could just use my exisiting memories of the last time I watched it, listened to Songs of Silence and when I saw them in person last year.

He's good. Very good. He just isn't exceptional, and if you think he's a quality live vocalist you're deluding yourself (or tone deaf).

he's not that good on songs of silence, I'll give you that. But when I saw them he slayed, they did Blank File and he hit every single fucking note. and i find better than most singers live on FTSOR.

and you should watch the dvd again anyway. just cuz iz's good. :D

Mike's more powerful, but Tony is more experienced and polished, so i'm not surprised either. I can't wait to see what Mike can do after a couple albums though.

Yesterday i got very upset about the general state of negativity that metal heads have all over, but it seem more positivity crept in and it looks better-

Metal is about having fun and enjoying the music, not to critisize every little nuonce of the music,

Going back to Tony Kakko, we have the DVD and they seem very good live, me being down here in Africa its quiet difficult seeing them live-so from that performance they are exeptional, because the standard of band we get here is horrible, so to see these guys they just blew me away-

The only 'metal' band ive seen live is Metallica, so rather enjoy seeing band like Sonata Arctica live, just because you can.

True indeed. But you have to understand they were just voicing out their honest opinions, that's all.
