Man, it pains me to say this, it really does, but The Crusade will go down as one of the best metal albums of 2006! The haters will hate, of course, but I was a hater and can't deny that this album is badass! There's definitely a big dose of early Metallica, but there's also a lot of early Testament here, too. The music rules, the solos are awesome! And most important, NO FUCKING SCREAMING!! Well, very, very little. Just a few parts here and there.

That's all it took to make this band a great metal band! They got rid of the screaming, just sang aggressive and there you have it: a great metal album. And the 8-minute plus instrumental, "The Crusade," is pretty sick!

Check it: TREAD THE FLOOD :dio: :dio:

Dude I am going to pause Xashtur to listen to this track, it better be fucking good or I am calling you on it.

Ok, just heard it:

Main riff and beginning of the song is cool and totally Metal, then he starts too sing and it reminds me of the guy from the Offspring singing for Sonata Arctica or something, weird not my thing, also when they deviate from the main riff like at the 1:16 mark and the 2:40 mark they totally lose me and the cool bang your head vibe of the song. Overall has all been done before and better and almost come off like a parody of Power Metal with the hardcore like vocals. Is this the wave of the future for Heavy Metal? Yeah I think so for mainstream shit which is still better then Nu-Metal but not my thing at all and like I said, it has all been done before and better. The song 4.5/10 remove the vocals and the weird fast parts of the song and you got a damn fine head banger at 6.5/10. This should be a huge hit though and make radio play so good for them (serious on that).

Now back to Xashtur........

And Ken, don't flip out, that is an honest non negative review, this is the first Trivium song i ever heard in my life.

hhmmm......While there was nothing wrong with the song at all, it wasn't very good either. Just average realy, I don't like the guys voice tho, sometimes is pretty good and others its shockingly bad. But its clearly metal, no doubt about that.

Hmm, not bad. I hate the dude's voice, but the music itself was pretty good.

Yeah exactly. Awful band becomes halfway decent? And my pulse quickens not a jot.

I just listened to the song and I pretty much agree with everyone else here. While, it is definetely metal, it isnt that good. There were some parts that gave me hope, but overall the singers voice is flat out terribble, not just in tone but in the actual vocal lines. There is just no talent there. The pacing is all off on the voice and even on the music at times. Th efast parts that leeeee refered to do come off as awkward and seems indicative of poor songwriting. All in all, however, it is better than what most of the current crop of nu-metal and commercial bands are playing. This will probably be a good stepping stone band for a lot of kids. I just honestly dont see what someone who is a metal "veteran" listener can find appealing in this.

all right, here it comes:

First off, the vocals. I find them wimpy and lame. Grow some balls!
second, the guitars: Not that impressive. Sure, it's better compared to other core stuff, but I'd even rather listen to just the generic power metal band.
third, the drums: I found them normal until the part were he kinda starts double-pedaling. that was sorta cool.
overall, not that impressive.

He meant in the singing. And he's right.

BAH! This dude sucks as a screamer, no doubt, but the vocal style on this album is no different than countless other "acceptable" metal bands. They're really not.

Regardless, I won't defend this band like I do other bands. Liking one out of three albums doesn't make me a fan, so hate all you want, fuckers! :)

omg the opening guitar lead is sooo kewl then it flies intew surch an origonal riff then his voice is like S"TRESS!" but it goes faggy for a birt, tehn back tew gud singer w/ nice scream and then verse repeats and teh riff is soooo compelx it is liek a prog mtl riff and then it goes into a catchy chorus w/ a guitar lead in the background... omg that was so kewl! nobodyes ever done that before! tehn a guitar solo right after teh chorus!!! where do these guys get tehre ideas!? certainly not dragonforce's song! omg now teh verse again, did nawt see that coming... and then teh chorus!! omg so kewl i can't stop banging my hed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! METAL!!!!

Actually that wasn't that bad for a pop song... although it was pretty much the same as their last album in that everything was like dead on the "average" line.

maybe, although that is quite possible

I'm DLing the full album now, even if the instrumental might be the only song worth hearing.

We all know what happens with expectations and perceived requirements. Trivium could have released the greatest metal album of all time and the same people would trash it.

The Crusade isn't the greatest metal album of all time, of course, but it is damn good.

Maybe, but until they do you cant blame people for trashing Trivium.

Anyways ive just heard that track and i am very surprised, whatever you people might say, this song it is Metal, it even has some thrash elments here and there, i see nothing wrong with the guys vocals except for some moments when he does that metalcore screaming thing, what strikes me though is that without the aggressive vocals the music is not aggresive at all, and thats a shame, i think that these guys are trying to be a tech-trash band, but just because you want to play technical metal it doesent mean that you have to pussify your riffs, oh and some leads on the song are clearly malmsteen ripoffs and ruins the whole fucking song, and the chorus sucks the riffage there is almost non existant, you just dont hide the guitar under bad vocal lines.

Overall the song is ok, its actually listenable, something that seemed almost impossible for Trivium, and thats ok really, get rid of the stupid juvenile shredding, put some riffs in the chorus an you'll get a very good song.
