I must say, I love it. I was worried about the song lengths, but it's all so well put together the song is over before you even notice the length. Bruce's voice is showing it's age, but he still pwns a number of Metal vocalists out there. The solos are great as always, albeit a bit short for the most part. The overall sound is very mature, and for lack of a better term, deadly serious. It creates a nice overall atmosphere, and gives me that funny feeling I get when listening to the old albums. I'm truly impressed by just how good this album is. Definately better than BNW and DoD combined, and is the best thing they've done since Seventh Son.

Up the Irons, fuckers!!!!!!!!!!! :dio:

I loved it too, but no way this is better than Brave New World :)

Eternal Idol is right on the money. A Matter Of Life And Death is easily better than DOD and BNW. With the longer tracks, AMOLAD keeps the listener more interested with its technicality and diversity, than the long tracks on BNW.
I think massive credit needs to go out to Nicko for his fantastic effort on drums. He's always great with every album, but with this one in particular. After 10 studio albums (with Nicko), someone who can keep churning out such great efforts like this is wonderful, especially with this album being more technical and somewhat progressive.

Well, I'm not sure it's better than Brave New World. It's very near, almost tied... and for me BNW was the best maiden since 7th son.

There's a lot of great songs... These Colours Don't Run, Brighter Than a Thousand Suns and For the Greater Good of God being my favourites.

A great improvement over DoD.

Listening to AMOLAD has given me new apreciation for DOD. Some songs which is didnt like very much at the start are now growing on me a little more, but i still think AMOLAD is better than DOD and BNW.
I wouldnt say best album since 7th son.....as a fan of the Blaze era Maiden, i think Virtual XI beats the new album, but not by much.

Got this the other day and I like it, just not as much as Brave New World (The only other Maiden album I own.. I know I know, get the older ones right? Meh, eventually). I'd probably rate this somewheres between 80-85.

Fav tracks: Different World, These Colours Don't Run, The Longest Day, and For The Greater Good of God.

Just got the album a couple of days ago and this is the first Maiden album that I did not like that much on the first listen. I have all their studio albums(except Virtual XI). But I understand this album requires a few more listens. So far The Longest Day and Out Of The Shadows which has a resemblence to Wasting Love has appealed to me the most. I am guessing this site will give it a score within the 80s or higher. I'm sure this album will eventually grow on me. :dio:

All right, I've listened to this 5-6 times at this point and its just not hooking me. There are some great songs on here (my favourites being The Pilgrim, The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg and For the Greater Good of God), but a lot of it is kind of just boring. Different World is probably the worst Maiden album opener they've ever done, and although Bruce gives a better performance on this then Dance of Death and Brave New World, the vocal lines are just really boring. Also, the fact that every song except for two not only begin with an acoustic guitar piece but end with it as well (the ending is worse for me; every once in a while, an acoustic finish can work great (see: The Prophecy) but it has to be interesting (read: Not just a rehash of the opening acoustic) and here it just generally destroys the energy and bang of most of the songs. Its this lack of energy that really destroys the album for me; I understand that they're going for a darker feel, but a lot of the time, it just sounds like they're really bored and not like a Maiden release. I'll give it a few more listens before I make a final score, though. And once again (this was my great experiment), I'm reminded why I should always download albums before I buy them.
