First off, wrong forum. Second, they've been reunited for about 4 years now. Third, making fun of 80's bands that are ten times better than your favorite band is retarded.

Well, I'll admit Europe has talent, but I will never rank a hair band above Sonata Arctica

Speaking of hair band, that's why this is the wrong forum :P

The term "hair band" is gayer than its implication. It's 80's rock! Plain and simple. If the dudes in Poison liked looking like the chicks in Vixen, who cares? It was still 80's rock.

Besides the fact that CC DeVille couldn't play his way out of a wet paper sack? That band was all about the image.

Anyways Europe's first one album was good, the rest of it was a big steaming pile of Velveeta.

I agree, but it's the lack of substance that turned me away from 80s rock once I got older. I'll admit, Europe did try to avoid the thematic sterotypes of that genre, but they still sounded cheesy to me, even when compared to the cheesiest PM (well, maybe not as cheesy as Rhapsody  ). I mean, I do like Edguy's latest album, which harkens back to that era, but with the exception of a few specific songs, there is still more substance to it than most music realeased by Warrant or Poison :P

I will at least sample the new Europe out of curiosity though.

Ken is just an 80's butt rocker through and through. ha ha, all that shit was gay except the early LA scene. Anything after oh lets say 86 was pretty worthless once MTV started making video. Good albums from some of those bands:

First two Cinderella
Twisted Sisters first 2
Dokkens first 2
MC First two
Black n Blue S/T
Ratt's first E/P and Invasion of your Privacy
The first Great White E/P

You're such a queer. Look at you! You like the first few albums only! Haha. Only the very early scene was cool. Haha. You're not any cooler by stating such nonsense!

MTV sure did saturate the scene with a bunch of worthless bands, but there were tons of bands that came out all throughout the 80's, and even after, that were badass! Are you telling me that Dokken's Dysfunctional and Erase The Slate aren't badass albums? Oh that's right, you haven't heard them. Are you saying that Cinderalla's Long Cold Winter is a good album, but Heartbreak Station and Still Climbing are not? Long Cold Winter is nothing like Night Songs, dude! It's just like the other two. Ratt's Out Of The Cellar, Reach For The Sky and Detonator aren't good albums? Pffft! The first Great White only?? You're a retard!

You know dick about 80's rock, clearly, and music in general, if you ask me.

I never put bands like Dokken in the same catagory has bands like Poison because Dokken seemed serious about music whereas bands like Poison just seemed serious about being "rock stars". When I do hear some of that music now, it's obvious to me which bands actually had talent even if they were part of that MTV surge. Dokken is definitely a good example of what was decent from that time period. I was always on the fence with Cinderella because there were definitely some solid songs from them. I always saw Great White as more of a blues band, so I never hated on them either. I also have to admit I'm still a closet fan of Skid Row because I think they really tried hard to rise above their peers in terms of songwriting - not to mention Bach as a frontman (alcoholic nutball or not).

Skid Row are awesome! They're even good now as a heavy alt-rock band (new album out in October).

Dokken ruled. Cinderella ruled, too, but more of a bluesy rock band after Night Songs. Great White was the same way, they were a great band!

Poison never did it for me. I think they definitely took the image very seriously, but let's not pretend like bands like Dokken and Motley Crue didn't either. The difference, of course, is that Poison did the chick look, which garners them more ridicule.

I think Dokken and Motley Crue (at least in their earlier days) had the songs to back themselves up. A good song is a good song. What I hate about that period are the image-oriented bands who couldn't write a decent song to save their lives. You can look goofy if you have a good song to perform. It's alot like Power Metal today (minus the overt androgeny). As long as Edguy still bring some good songs with them on stage (I.E. NOT Trinidad), Tobias can where all the cow print pants he wants

Poison had some good songs, but very cheesy. Not really my thing. I actually own Flesh & Blood, and it's pretty good, but I think their best stuff was done when they looked like chicks.

my guitar teacher had guitar mags from like the 80s and Ritchie Kotzen and CC Deville were often on the covers

Sad too because C.C. was far from anything special on the guitar

When C.C. wasn't high or drunk he could play. Nothing amazing, but far from bad.

Actually, I saw a show that featured C.C. a year or two ago, and he seems to play much better now than in the original Poison days.

Anyone remember Vito from White Lion? :D

Hey Ken, why don't you chill out and realize that not everyone thinks like you do and you can't shove your taste down everyones throat. You want to be the Queen of 80's butt rock and hair metal be my guest. The early LA scene was cool and underground, it fell apart after that because they all got signed to major labels and it showed they didn't give a shit.

You know what fucker, actually I have heard those Ratt Albums you mentioned and they suck. I have heard Dysfunctional from Dokken, it sucks. Cinderella blew their wad after Long cold winter (which is a great rock album). I was ALWAYS more into Heavy Metal and not 80's Hair Metal anyways. I would show you my collection and I do know a lot about music I just have taste which you don't for somethings. You can't deal with the fact that you listen to commercial fucking souless shit and dig on it. Hey that is cool, just don't expect me to like it.

In the 80's I was listining to Heavy Metal, that is what I love, Heavy Metal, when bands like Dokken and Motley Crue stopped playing it (Def Leppard is the biggest fucking sell out of all time btw) I stopped buying their albums. They suck to me, get over it. I was too busy enjoying real Heavy Metal to give a shit what Warrant and Slaughter were doing.

Just get off of your fucking high horse and calling everyone elitest because you listen to shit and like it. We have the right to be picky with our money and what we like. I started listinnig to Metal in 82 and I know what I like by now.
