The only album of theirs I have ever listened to is Pirson of Desire and I really like it. I need to check the rest of their stuff out.

Cool! I just hope it is more in the vein of their earlier stuff. I didn't like Remagine at all. It sounded like nu-metal.

But even if the new album sucks, that's okay, because now there's Epica and they sound just like old AF. :D Yay for replacement bands!

You're retarded. Reimagine didn't sound like nu-metal at all. I will grant you that it's different, but nothing like nu-metal.

Ken the nu-metal nazi strikes again. If you're going to call something nu-metal you best be damned sure it's nu-metal or Ken will inform you of your ignorance.

If you like that album, you're best getting the second After Forever album and then the two so far released by Epica. Mark Jansen, the guitarist/songwriter, left after the second album to form Epica and they sound more like the first two AF albums than the band themselves these days.

Alright, I've heard good things about Epica but never got around to listening to them. Thanks for the info.

The Soup Nazi > The Nu-Metal nazi.

Yes, Epica are very good from what I've heard (only two albums).

Nothing of AF really grabed me after Decipher but i've said that more than once.... :lame: I have no expectations for this but i'll give it a try for old times' sake.

+1 on what Rad said

Well, I think it sounds like nu-metal. Ken is free to disagree, of course. But regardless of what we call it, I still didn't like Remagine at all. Didn't have any of those nice AF elements that made me like their earlier stuff.

But like Radagast said, their songwriter works for Epica these days, so I'm satisfied. I like what he is doing with that band so far. For a while, I was listening to CtO non-stop for several weeks. Tyrion was not amused, as he doesn't care for them. :p

Decipher is awesome. They lost me after Floor's brother left the band and made Epica. Just not the same and I don't like Epica either. The one album I bought after that (plus the MCD Exordium) just didn't do it for me like Decipher. Too proggy or something.

Their is a reason Epica is called "Replica". They pale next to Decipher IMO. You are better off just spending the dollars on the Decipher and "maybe" the first Epica album. I have 2 of those but they don't much for me. To OTT with nothing to back it and the growls annoy me.

I just feel that the term nu-metal is like emo now. Ten years ago "emo" wasn't an insult, but it is today, and the music is frowned upon. Nu-metal is a genre that people love to hate—fine, that's a person's right—but when people inject that label into a band simply to throw a negative into the mix it pisses me off. Nu-metal, for the most part, is a VERY defined genre. Sure, bands like Korn and Coal Chamber are part of that genre and slightly stand out from the pack, but most bands are very similar in style. To say a band like After Forever went nu-metal is baffling, even if someone says they only partially went nu-metal! Even the In Flames comparisons are lame.

Find me a nu-metal band that sounds like After Forever and we'll talk. Find me a nu-metal band that sounds like In Flames and we'll talk.

See, I can find you 100 bands in 10 minutes that sound like Spineshank (100% nu-metal).

Relax there, I agree with you. I doubt AF sounds like Nu Metal even their new shit.

Most disturbing Nu Metal shit I have heard in awhile is Disturbed doing Land of Confusion. Good god

It would have been cooler had In Flames not done the same cover version on the Trigger EP.

Basically when people say "went nu metal" they really mean that the band in question dumbed down their sound and adjusted their guitar tone (and toher production values) to that very familiar faceless mallcore sound. I'm guilty of it myself, although I know that "Tru Nu" is stuff like Korn.

Can we accept that Nu Metal is a defined sound and Mallcore is a watering down in a grey homogenous mass?
