Number 1: I AM BACK!

Number 2: I bought Maidens new album the other day and after about 5 hard spins, i am rather pleased with the album.

One thing that i was suprised about was the difference with the first single posted online "The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg". When i first heard it online, it seemed just average to me....the sound quality must have been poor cos on the album it alsolutely kicks ass and is easily the best song on the album.

Next fav tracks for me would be These Colours Don't Run and The Longest Day. Other good songs are The Pilgrim, For The Greater Good Of God. The Legacy is alright, while the two most average tracks would be Lord Of Light and Brighter Than A Thousand Suns. BTATS is extremely annoying and hard to get into as Bruce's voice and the music do not perform in unison.

Overall, i feel that this album is a mix of X Factor, Virtual XI and Brave New World rolled into one, especially with the very long tracks and the slow, acoustic beginnings.

A Matter Of Life And Death is an improvement over Maiden's last two albums and i would rank this album as follows:

1. 7th Son
2. Somewhere In Time
3. Powerslave
4. Iron Maiden
5. Number Of The Beast
6. Piece Of Mind
7. Virtual XI
8. A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH
9. X Factor
10. No Prayer For The Dying
11. Brave New World
12. Fear Of The Dark
13. Dance Of Death
14. Killers

91/100 for A Matter Of Life And Death

Very good album, not awesome but not bad/average either

Damn. Turns out it doesn't come out here in Canada until tuesday. On the plus side, though, HMV is having an excellent deal where you buy A Matter of Life and Death and another Iron Maiden album for 25 bucks total.

That's a pretty cool deal, seeing as how I buy pretty much all my cds from HMV. Don't know what I should get with it though?

At Trooper of Steel, why is Killers last? I love Killers prolly one of my fav all time Maiden albums, but for you it's dead last. Why is that?

HMV is so fucking stupid. I love how they consider lowering their prices to the average price of an album a "deal". Seriously I have no idea how they stay in business charging 4-5$ more than pretty much every other CD store I've gone too.

at the media markt i was just at they had this big cardboard thing with the matter of life and death cover on it and the cd stacked on front. Behind were every Maiden cd for like 10 francs (consider the average cd costs 30) except the 2 disc live ones. Awesome. I'm gonna buy the whole maiden back catalogue now.

Sadly enough, HMV probably has the cheapest first hand CD prices around here, and are the only store (besides this great Metal CD shop that takes me, alas, about an hour to get to) that has a decent selection. Around 12 bucks Canadian for a CD is pretty much a good bargain for me for firsthand albums.

12$ is pretty good for first hand, but not really for a pretty major release like Maiden. I mean I got the new Tool and Ghost Reveries for 10$ each...

I not going to explain this again, as i do everytime i list my fav Maiden albums.....ok, once more

Killers doesnt really appeal to me, after the following songs:

Murders In The Rue Morgue
Wrathchild
Killers

The other tracks, IMO are just average. So compared with all the other Maiden albums, Killers finishes in 14th place.

Last time i will explain that

Same here, "Lord Of Light" and "These Colours Don't Run" are my favourites. But this could change since those 2 songs appear to be the easiest to like but this could mean that some other will reveal its depth later and become my new favourite. Still it's always hard to talk about Iron Maiden favourites....

This album is deffinately a grower, because there's a lot to take in at once. Even people who didn't like it at first are starting to love it.
I'd say 'The longest day' is one of the finest tracks maiden have written for a while...

Ok well I agree that those are probably the best songs on that album, but I am sorry that you had to retype that. But I have never read any of your thoughts of that album. Sorry again.

At first I didn't like this album at all. Pretty much every song starts with a slow intro and I started to wonder are these guys so old that they can't play fast anymore. But when I started to listen to it more and more, I realised that the slower parts are actually way better than the faster songs on their previous albums (BNW and DOD) combined.

Now I cannot get this cd out of my player at all. I also listen to it in my car every second when I'm driving.

Brave New World and Dance Of Death are NOTHING compared to this giant! I love it!

Favorite song is hard to say, but The Pilgrim is probably it.

I got this today, fucking delayed US release. GRRRRR.

I must say, I love it. I was worried about the song lengths, but it's all so well put together the song is over before you even notice the length. Bruce's voice is showing it's age, but he still pwns a number of Metal vocalists out there. The solos are great as always, albeit a bit short for the most part. The overall sound is very mature, and for lack of a better term, deadly serious. It creates a nice overall atmosphere, and gives me that funny feeling I get when listening to the old albums. I'm truly impressed by just how good this album is. Definately better than BNW and DoD combined, and is the best thing they've done since Seventh Son.

Up the Irons, fuckers!!!!!!!!!!! :dio:
