So what is the song you put on when you're really down and really need some music to give you the strength to carry on?

I listen to Dark Angel to get into party mode, if that is what you mean.

A crapload of Freedom Call songs: Hymn to the Brave, The Eternal Flame, Flame in the Night...depending on your taste, they are either very uplifting, or the gayest shit ever. Brutal music can also be uplifting, in a different way...for example, I get quite a adrenaline rush by listening to Behemoth - Slaves Shall Serve, or pretty much every song from Demigod.

Stairway to heaven always makes me feel better when i'm a bit down, as does IE's a question of heaven. But if you meant to get into party mode then its Shamanix by Hallucinogen.

Everyone's picking happy music here... when I'm down I usually put on the hardcorest death metal I can find, cause then I can think "see Gorguts is angry too. They know how I feel." and BOOM I feel better. Worked just last night.

Yeah for me its stuff like Strapping Young Lad or The Dillinger Escape plan. They just sort of bulldoze my mind and leave me feeling neutral.

Just depends on my mood. Sometimes it's the Power Metal like everybody else has been saying and sometimes I need something heavier.

Sometimes Burzum, Sapthuran, Taake, Mystic Forest, Windir, Satyricon or any other BM with a bit of beauty or majesty in the music can pick me up.

Or just something like Bodom, Blind Guardian, Maiden :dio:

depends on how unhappy I feel. one song that comes to mind though is My Ghosts By Wyrd. The main riff just sounds so uplifting to me.

Depends on what you mean by uplifting. Songs like "Under a Serpent Sun" by At The Gates and (say what you like) "Like Light to the Flies" by Trivium really get me fired up, but I don't know if it's really "uplifting". I'd probably consider DragonForce to be the most uplifting band for me, along with some stuff by Blind Guardian and Dream Theater.

Cellador covered "Eagle Fly Free" tonight, that was pretty uplifting.

Speaking personally, I don't get uplifted by power metal like freedom call or dragonforce. I need something deep, with substance. It can be something of the blaze-era iron maiden (x-factor really fits when you're in a dark mood), or blaze solo stuff (like blood and belief), or then some newer Fates Warning that has pretty intelligent lyrical content. Genereally stuff with no nonsense. Heavy and aggressive can work wonders aswell though.

Any of the great semi-pop Devin Townsend songs (Sunshine and Happiness, Christeen, Traveller etc.).
