Man, its just plain inconceivable that a guy could dislike Trivium on the basis of not liking their musical output, ain't it?

Hearing Metallica influence and it actually sounding like Metallica and the singer sounding like James Hetfield are two different things.

Anyway, I just heard this song "Dying In Your Arms" and I liked that one, too!! :omfg:

Great guitar melody in that one, although it's kinda repetitive and not that metal. Give "The Deceived" a try too it's an awesome song.

It was melodic, not extremely heavy, but we've heard that sort of thing from countless "cool" metal bands for ages now. I've never heard the last album really. Maybe I should buy it?

Well It seems you would be the kind of person who would enjoy it, so I would certainly recommend that you do so. If you can get the reissue the extra tracks are worth it.

I have the first album and the screaming annoys the hell out of me. I love the music, but those vocals...meh. Maybe they're an acquired taste, I don't know. I would buy the reissue if I did buy Ascendancy, though. I never buy first issue albums from Roadrunner.

It's hard to believe so many people are annoyed by those vocals. Especially since I'm very difficult with harsh, yelled screamed, type vocals. I mean Black metal vocals are much harsher and bad IMO, Grindcore vocals are frickin horrible and sound at time like a pig that is on the verge of having an orgasm.... Anyhow thats my opinion. Trivium's clean vocals certainly help softening the harsh vocals and is probably the reason I actually find the harsh ones ok. I have to admit it took me a couple of listens to get used to it though.

I don't mind harsh vocals at all, but it sounds like Heafy is singing with a cold. They sound extremely strained, I feel I can hear the inner wall of his throats just bleeding and crumbling away. I just doesn't sound natural to me, kind of like when some chicks try to sing like a male death metal vocalist.

haha do you have someone in mind ? lol
Although I understand your point of view, It ain't half bad, on certain tracks he is capable of achieving respectable harsh vocals.

as for that "female" vocalist ( angela gossow) , I actually dig her work.

No, but here's an example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZqifcoP_Ak

I like this band because I think the guitarist comes up with some damn catchy riffs, and the chick's singing vocals are great, her screaming vocals are comparable to Heafy's, though. So they're sort of in the same boat as Trivium with me, I love the music, love the clean singing, totally not a fan of the harsh vocals.

And yeah, I know some of you think Sugarcoma are gay, blah-blah-blah. Whatever.

Sorry but the harsh vocals are FAAAAAR worse than Heafy's as they aren't even harsh. They sound lame.... and they even add some echo effect on it.... no further comments. As for the music it sounds pretty good.

They're comparable, meaning they don't sound natural. Whether they're worse is totally subjective. I wasn't trying to compare them like that.

They do a cool cover of a Britney Spears song, though. I edited the link in my last reply, but you're living in this thread and are replying to quickly!
