Hehe.. I'll cut you all the slack in the world (wouldn't want to upset the forum ninja). Just listen to it when you can/want, I won't force you.. But the bass in the song truly rips, so it would be a shame not to check it out before the link expires.

Seems like you're making a lot of progress, Radegast, although I didn't know this was your kind of thing- maybe that's why you left the band

(Cool band, btw)

i bought the book, bass for dummies.

i felt insanely nerdy doing so, since most of thatsection was dedicated to computer programing, but it is a great book and i used it to teach myself to play

i would highly recomend it.

I'm a bassist as well and still learning. Bought my bass about 6 months ago. Yeah I guess whatever everyone has posted here is very useful. But whatever it is, Rad, try learning the songs yourself, by ear. It helps a lot. When I started playing the guitar some 6 years ago on an acoustic, I depended heavily on tabs. And the result was that I never improved much. 6 years on and I'm still a skill-les fuck on guitars. But when I bought my bass, I took my friends advice and started learning songs by ear. It's tough, takes time and boring. But it helps on the long run. Trust me.

And another good way to learn is by playing with your friends. They could teach you some tricks along the way. Plus playing along with friends is fast, and helps improves understanding among band members. When I started out, I was the only lone ranger of metal in my school. So learning my favourite Maiden and Metallica songs was pure shite.

And remember Rad, some people are gonna say that you cant play bass without a bass, but dont listen to them, bass playing comes from the heart, not from some piece of wood with four strings attached, keep following your dreams man! :dio:

I have some rudimentry guitar skills before picking up bass, but it doesn't really matter. All you need is to learn two guitar scales for your more fancy playing, and a lot of patience besides. What I do when learning bass (or guitar) is to pick a song and work it out note by note. Black Sabbath is great for this because the basslines follow the guitar riffs, making them easier to identify. I also just sit in front of the tv and doodle away on it; strengthening my fingers and becoming familiar with what strings and frets make what sounds.

And it's only four, fat strings with no chords! :D

I mean those tendon-ripping all four fingers playing twister on the fretboard nightmares you get with playing guitar.

Dude, that's such a derogatory comment on bass. So your saying all those losers on guitars to play bass?! Hahaha! Damn, Steve Harris wont be happy. Bass playing is beautiful and unique on it's own man.
