My favorite is a toss up between Something Wicked and Horror Show (a totally underrated album).

Horror Show is underrated???? News to me, i thought everyone knew it was awesome. My favorite has to be Days of Purgatory, strictly speaking not an album by them but every song is an improvement over the originals and they were already fucking great.

Yeah, but the production is too bottom heavy.

I think that the early albums were a bit trebley (is that a word? ) while there's a certain bottom-heaviness to the later albums. My guess is that they were trying to make the old songs sound more like the later songs in that regard, but I agree it doesn't sound right on some of the tracks.

The reason Horror Show is not given its due is the fact that the songs seem to lack a personal touch. It kills me when I hear people criticize him for that. Jon's just one of those guys people love to find a reason to hate. If he does horror Show, it's impersonal. If he does The Glorious Burden (very personal to him), he's pushing a right-wing agenda on people or whatever. I think every good IE album now will be underrated sinply due to some people's attempts to degrade Jon more than anything else.

That's my favorite song from The Dark Saga! It's is a killer tune. Barlow sounds so much like Paul Stanley toward the end of that song. But yeah, godly indeed.

Its probably my Favorite song of all time, i can't think of another song that hits me like that song does. I could fill up a thread about how good that song is lol!

omg! now you've said it i can so see the likeness between matt and Stanley. I remember reading some where that stanley was one of matts heros so it makes sence.

Are you familiar with Kiss at all? That's a serious question, not an insult. There's my disclaimer.

Anyway, in his lower mid-range he has a Stanley-esque quality on a lot of song, but at 6:03 of "A Question Of Heaven" he starts to really nail the Stanley notes. I even think at about 6:45 he sounds like Chris Cornell. Regardless, those are two great singers so there's no shame in sounding like them. Of course, Barlow is much more powerful than both combined, so KO1 and shit.

I've got a greatest hits album somewhere but i wouldn't call myself a kiss fan or anything. But i can see what your talking about. I never noticed that before. Matt is in my view one of the best ever in metal, i can't see myself accepting Tim as the 'true' voice of Iced Earth for a very long time. Him and John would have to release some true spectacular albums before i would ever change my mind.

Just tried to listen to Gettysburg again with the booklet, got bored agian. Its such a cool idea but fails miserably in my eyes.

Bored? Wow. That's the last thing I would ever have said about Gettysburg. That song(s) gets my blood pumping every time. I'll throw in the DVD while I'm doing dishes just for the hell of it :D

Horror show put me off Iced Earth for a long time, it was the first album of theirs that I bought. Its only in the last year I've started listening to them more, but I still think they are overrated.

Jon gets blasted so much, it's hard to imagine them being overrated with all the hate spewed at him.

I suppose. Some people underrate them as a reaction to all the praise some people give them.

Put it this way - I find them to be no where near as good or as bad as they are commonly made out to be.
