Agreed.

Normally I would go for the less polished option, but SOTS just has a sheen that never wears off.

Actually TSD has some serious moments of genius on it, but SOTS is really epoch-defining.

Slaughter of the Soul is the shit. Tomas Lindberg is the shit. God I miss the days of true Sweedish Heavy Metal.....

I used to be such a huge fan. Entombed, Edge of Sanity, Hyporcicy, Grave, Gardenian, Dark Tranquility, old In Flames, Carnal Forge, Ebony Tears, A carnourous quintet, At the fucking Gates, Dissection, 1st 3 Soilwork albums, 1st 3 Arch Enemy before they grew tits (fuck you, Stigmata is top 10 all time), old Opeth and it goes on and on. What the fuck happenend? Why is there none of this shit anymore. Nightrage is cool but mostly is just sucks ass. God i still get a hard on from Chainheart Machine and Natural Born Chaos. That music was so fucking good back then.

Terminal Spirit Disease is very good, but its practically an EP. The songs on SotS are about the same quality wise, there's just more of them. Based on that alone, I'd give the nod to Slaughter of the Soul.

But I also agree with those that say the earlier stuff is better than both.

there is some, like Arsis (A Celebration of Guilt is easily one of the top 5 melodeath albums ever), Non-Human Level (side project of Darkane's guitarist, way cooler than Darkane) and All Shall Perish (although they have metalcore breakdowns its still good)... just not as much of it. Maybe Gory Blister too...

Fucking Arsis is shit to me. Good band but not my thing. Darkane is only ok. I am not buying an ASP album, ever, no matter what.

Shit every modern day metal core band is just a rip off of In Flames riffs and Gardenian vocal patterns. That last really good album of the genre was probably Natural Born Chaos.

I still want some bands to try to use clean vocals but actually make it good... the only clean vocaled melodeath album I really like is A Predator's Portrait. Scar Symmetry are OK, but otherwise pretty much all bands to use clean vocals are teh suck.
