Ok, so I saw two albums on sale. Wishmaster and Angels Fall First (remastered). Which should I get? So far, have Once and love it, don't necessarily want the one most similar. Just tell me which is better...

Wishmaster is their second best, after Oceanborn.

Angels Fall First is their 'weird' album (the debut) - slight ambient and folk touches here and there, generally a lot less polished.

Wrong forum, n00b. :P

I remember saying that AFF was better than Wishmaster in some old thread. I must have been on something when I said that. Wishmaster is far better.

Power? If you say so.... :?

Looks like it's Wishmaster, then. Thanks to all.

Between those two, i'd go with Wishmaster.

Wishmaster is the first album I got by them
and listened to it quite a bit but from all of their albums
Wishmaster and Angels Fall First are the two I listen to the least.

Their best albums
are Oceanborn and Century Child.

I prefer Wishmaster to Century Child. Century Child i feel just sorta tails off towards the end. Plus, I much prefer the rich guitar/keyboard tones on Wishmster to the downtuned chugging on the later albums. But that's just me.

I totally respect your opinion, but
I prefer Century Child due to the less power-metal feel wishmaster had. I got really tired of those speedy numbers that seemed to lack depth on Wishmaster. To me Century Child is well balanced, between the fast/slow and heavy/soft ones. Plus I really like the dynamics Marco brought on that album. I also like the fact that Tarja drop down the operatic style down a couple of notches since I really though it was overdone at times on Wishmaster.

Marco on the first three albums would just be perfect. :)

Totally agree with you! especially on Angel fall first where Tuomas sings way to often...he's got a terrible voice.

Did you hear the re-recording of Astral Romance with Tony Kakko performing Tuomas' parts? Much better.

Wishmaster and AFF are actually both pretty much tied with being my least favorite Nightwish release, but between the two id go for Wishmaster, even if just for The Kinslayer.

Angels Fall First is essentially a demo, especially the Lappi Land tracks. There are some killer songs on it, though. It's just a collection of songs that were never really recorded to actually become an album.

Yeah I heard it, he also sings on a live version of beauty and the Beast and on Over The Hills and Far Away.
all three tracks can be found on Over The Hills and Far Away CD.

On Nightwish's first DVD you can also see Tony Kakko perform
Beauty and the Beast! Tarja and Tony make a great duo!

I've never found anything wrong with any Nightwish album. I think they are all great. Even AFF have songs like Elvenpath, The Carpenter, Tutankhamen and Nymphomaniac Fantasia ( ). Tuomas was a nuisance but not that much as to ruin the good expirience out of the album.

He looks like such a faglord in that performance. Ah, I <3 Tony.

Angels fall first is not even a necessity for a fan..lol
just kidding. I do find it to be the weakest by far.

It's definitely their weakest. It could have been a killer EP, or shorter full-length. There are too many filler tracks, though.

Killer tracks:

- Elvenpath
- Beauty And The Beast
- Astral Romance
- Tutankhamen
- Nyphomaniac Fantasia
- Know Why The Nightingale Sings

Good tracks:

- The Carpenter
- Sleeping Sun (Bonus Track)
- A Return To The Sea

Filler tracks:

- Angels Fall First
- Lappi (Lapland) I: Erämaajärvi
- Lappi (Lapland) II:Witchdrums
- Lappi (Lapland) III:This Moment Is Eternity *
- Lappi (Lapland) IV:Etiäinen *
- Once Upon A Troubador (Bonus Track)

* from their first three song demo
