Right so if they didn't sing about dragons (Avantasia doesn't sing about dragons, more about Catholic dogma mixed with fantasy, but whatever...) it would automatically be better?

Well I don't really get what you were trying to say. Whether or not you meant it your first comment looked very trollish. What was your point?

1. The 2nd Avantasia album did not suck. They are both awesome.

2. What the fuck is this supposed to mean?

I'm not really sure what I mean, I think nightmare was saying that he might not take the lyrics seriously, but to me pretty much no power metal bands do...

Edguy (of old) and Avantasia actually do have a lot of 'serious' lyrics. I'm not saying its anything profound (but then what is, in any form of Metal?) but a lot of their songs were your standard anti-religous stuff. So yeah, some Power Metal bands do take their lyrics seriously, just like lots don't. And then you get the bands that take their ridiculous cheeseball lyrics with deadly seriousness (hi, Rhapsody!).

I guess I just have no idea what this whole "take this seriously" stuff is about. Does anybody take Cannibal Corpse lyrics seriously? I mean come on, if you don't like the lyrics then that's fine with me. They aren't the highlight of the albums for me either. I'm just not sure why you guys are being arrogant pricks.

That's what I meant, I mean who carse if they're singing about raping limless cadavers, zebras being stuck in elevators, dragons killing each other, how much they hate the world, or "her orifice icicles were hemmoraged to her thigh, she was a meek handjob sarcophagus" (personally my favourite mars volta lyric). If the music is good and the vocal lines are powerful they'll be able to sing it with enough emotion so that it'll have the same effect.

Even some fantasy songs can be "serious". Blind Guardian mastered that. In fact, BG is often very serious, straying from the fantasy alot, even if known more for the Tolkien references than the other 75% of their music. There are plenty of other bands that do serious Power Metal too. Bands like Rhapsody make it easy to forget that though.

I'm starting to understand what you're saying now. I think we are kinda on the same page.

It means I don't take bands like Avantasia seriously. I enjoy their rocking out songs, but I don't take the whole elves and fairies played out by 95 different guest musicians serious.

Avant II is a pale pale shadow of the first one, period.

Hey if you take it serious, more power to you. I take Levithan and Countess deadly serious and a lot of people think that is gay.........

Tobi simply used a fantastical environment to tell a story that had somewhat serious meaning in it.
