They played speed metal when Helloween was playing power metal.

that is because you all are kids and don't know what you are talking about. Helloween was and is the definition of euro speed metal. It just changed over time and got called power metal when it fact it isn't true Power Metal and neither are its decendants. Power Metal is US based epic, trad Heavy Metal along the lines of Warlord, Jag Panzer, Omen, Cirith Ungol, Manialla Road and others. We can debate this endlessly but the facts remain there is no "power" in playing fast songs with casterated vocalist, true power Metal is true Trad 80's American Metal and it's decendants in Europe, especially Germany. Blind Guardian DEF fits this descripton. Sonata Arctica, Start and others dont. period. eom.

And no I am not going to argue it. Iron Maiden is what "POWER" metal is all about. Shit. Hard riffs, excellant drums, driving base and a vocalist who pushes nd makes the songs......

The fact is that all those trads change with time, using the term "speed metal" makes no sense anymore, power metal defines the bands we all know today like Stratovarius, Lost Horizon, Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Helloween, DragonForce, Rhapsody, and so on....

I'm not going to debate the fact that you're a moron either.

Iron Maiden, and even Judas Priest, are the most mis-labeled bands in metal!! Yes, there is metal, but there is also a ton of rock music! Maybe not 75% like I previously mentioned, but I'd say each band is about 50% heavy rock (not 80's rock!) and 50% heavy metal.

But then again Metal is derived from rock so its all really pointless labelling.

Its just Iron Maiden. Nuff' said

I said it somewhere else, but it seems that PM bands go rocky as they go on -> Edguy, Blind Guardian, Maiden (from the new songs from them two, at least). Not a bad thing at all.

Maiden didn't do that, they've always been that way.

Why so negative, boy? The kid's come here, full of hope and love for the Metal in his heart, and you smash all his dreams just like that.

Strato rule. Not sure I'd say they're TEH BEST though.

Thanks of your support! I think everyone has their own favor so I just want to hear some opinions of Strato! Anyways, thank you!

I agree. Obviously there is a difference between rock and metal but debating the percentages of each in a given band is quite ridiculous.

Is this a fucking joke? HOw could this band be the king of anything but the flowery realm of frilly shirts and feathered hair?? These types of bands are the new hair metal. Its fine if you want to listen to them, they are very good musicians, and they do play their style very well, but we all know that Manowar are the Kings of metal, they're not the best....Iron Maiden are, but Manowar were the first to claim that title.

Yeah dude, but 90 percent of Manowar is gayer then Start or Edguy. They are the same bull shit. Lets just take Kings of Metal for example, Hail and Kill owns. Pleasure slave is good fun. The rest, fruity as fuck crap. How can you praise fucking Manoward but shit on Strat? At least I can shit on both for the crap they are.

Dude Kings Of Metal may be big step toward the cheesy part, but all the albums before that are nothing but classic American heavy/power metal to me! No way in hell they are fruity

I would never call them the king it would have to be Helloween sure there are probably others with stronger releases now but they started it all. As for Stratovarius they have long been superceeded by so many better bands take Mystic Prophecy's latest blows anything Strat has released in years away.

Manowar at their fruitiest is still more metallic and less gay than Stratovarius. The massive amounts of Keyboards imitating string sections, Timo's Voice, and the very delicate acoustic guitar passages that are common place in Strato make them very very gay. I fail to see how Manowar singing about riding into battle and killing posers is fruity. You have lost this argument, now Woman be my slave!!

Of course, Holy has cleared it up!

Acoustic guitar = gay

Therefore, all guitar music before electric guitars were invented is gay?
