HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I mean, hip hop/rap? Post rock? pop? Alternative? Some weirdo psuedo dance music/ neoclassical folk music with drill and bass elements? (Im sure you'll cite at least one genre you made up  )

So name me some music that is more emotional than metal. And has good compositions.

btw, Mystic forest???????? Darkestrah?????????

Yes, Mystic Forest has classical elements, but Darkestrah doesn't have them, it's Armenian folk!

For post-rock, yes, it's closer to classical music than metal, at least it's not 90% verse-chorus.

There are quite some metal bands that take elements from the cheesiest of classical music, that's not being classical music, that's copy pasting some into rock based music. A lot of electronic, instrumental, avant-garde and jazz genres go a lot further, they may use different instruments and ways, but they build up their music the way the composers did.

And then I'm not even talking about modern composition and neoclassical music.

Darkestrah can make me almost cry. Can post rock or rap or jazz do that? Not for me it cant.

Im talking about a feel here more than anything. Also, the way metal ranges from epic to incredibly depressed and sad amazes me.

Avant-garde jazz artists noddling away on a sax in some smoky club playing classical-inspired "compositions", which are frankly boring as fuck, is not my thing.

Sometimes inspiration makes up for a lack of 'composition'.

Don't try to tell me that you know anything about jazz, I don't know anything about it, but that's still more than you know. The fact that you don't like jazz or can't hear the emotion of it is because you haven't listened to it. Ask your mother to listen to Darkthrone and listen as she tells you it's just noise, it takes time to hear the emotion in a genre you're not into.

Oh, and the Darkestrah song that makes you cry is NOT metal.

Not all metal has verse chorus structures. Yes, 90% of metal is sucky verse chorus shit, but thats not the stuff most ppl here would be interested in :)

I dont see any verse-chorus structures in Burzum. I do see structures, but not repetitive pop-styled stuff.

Also, other genres are not as inspired by philosophers (ie - Nietschze) and philosphy as metal.

What else deals with beliefs and philosophies in life, religion, politics, etc like metal?

Well, certainly not most classical music ;)

90% is crap, but it's still metal. Burzum is repetitive and minimalistic, but that doesn't mean it's close to classical music. Closer to it than Soilwork, surely, but it's more based on Nordic music and Ambient.

I think its metal :(

If you dont know anything how can you say i dont know anything? And i admit i dont know nothing, so, uh, yeah, herewe are.

Ok, lets just change the question, what is the best genre of modern music.

Metal, because: everything i said. Sure classical isnt influenced by Nietschze (how the fuck do you spell it btw?)but metal is, so i see it as better than other stuff. Its about the feeling i get listening ot it.

Example: I listen to Burzum, it makes me feel some kind of emotion.

I listen to beethoven, same.

I listen to 50 cent. I go :?

Anyway everything is opinion so it doesnt really matter what you or i think, as long as everyone is happy and tolerates each other. *rainbow appears on your computer screen*

You can say metal is the best modern genre that exists if you want to, but you must first admit that you are completely absolutely ignorant on every form of music except metal, and you must state that your opinion is based on listening experience with metal only.

Not entirely, but yes, i concede that my opinion is based on listening to, by far, mostly metal.

But, in the end, im happy being ignorant.

There is no point in arguing over opinions, we just all gotta tolerate each otherm whether we be black, elitists or ignorant of anything but metal.

So, *RAINBOWS!*

Im just trying to end an argument without getting pwned

And no, because even just within the metal genre i still havent seen everything, so i still find joy in listening to just metal.

I guess i am branching out a little, but im not sick of metal yet!

Misha-I thought you left already. Nope, you have to keep beating the dead horse. We get it. You have moved on from metal because of your superior brainpower. Your mind is so open it could swallow the earth whole.

And 90% of metal is not verse/chorus when the vast majority of black/doom metal is not verse/chorus.

Wise old men don't listen to metal. Because they're fucking wimps and metal is too heavy for them. Of course you don't have to be old to be a wimp.

Wise old men don't listen to metal because once upon a time, when they were wise young men and formed their tastes (and mindset about the same), they were not exposed to such profound material as we are today.

Or maybe they just don't like it.. Tastes have little to do with wisdom.

As far as modern music goes post-rock reminds me the most of classical, followed closely by prog and avant garde. The only time I heard classical in metal is when it has elements of post rock, prog or avant garde OR when its the dumb cheesy orchestrated stuff or neoclassical guitar soloing. When more than 90% of the genre falls into the exact same verse/chorus structure I don't think you can say its very close to classical... and even stuff that doesn't is still usually just riff following riff and then ending ad nauseum.

Quote:
So name me some music that is more emotional than metal. And has good compositions.

Pretty much any King Cimson instrumental fits into that category... or just listen to Isildurs Bane - Mind Vol.1 or Kronos Quartet - Black Angels.

Add Windir, Haggard, Therion, Agalloch and Insomnium and I'm on the same page as you are.

Blut Aus Nord?

Oh and let me just say that Vivaldi, Mozart, Bach and Bethoveen are the greatest composers of all time and there is no discussion on that whatsoever!

I like Blut Aus Nord, but i doubt everyone will.

And you're right, Beethoven et al pwn metal. But metal pwnz all other current music. (And is probably closest genre to classical in terms of modern music)

Indeed.
