Rush - The body Electric.

One song based in binary code, and singing the chorus in binary (one-zero-zero-one-zero-zero-one) is very geeky.

That's a great song. And isn't YYZ written around an airport call-sign, or something? Much deeper than you'd think...

Yes, is a great song (although not one of my Rush favorites). But it's geeky too, you can deny it...

and YYZ is the code for Toronto's Airport.

Very geeky. Geddy looks and sounds like he's just come out of a D&D tournament. Great band, though.

Oh, shizzle, anyone else remember Gaia Epicus' interpretation of Star Wars? No? Well that is TOO BAD FOR YOU, because Radagast is going to share his pain.

Quote:
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away
The evil empire was building a force, destroying all in its way
Lord Vader, he's the man in black
Helmet of steel helps him to breathe, and with Jedi force he attack

The death star is near
But the rebels have no fear
The dark side of the force
They'll never join

Star Wars, the rebel fleet is on the way
Star Wars, they have come to save the day, Star wars

A new hope is here, and he's gonna save us all
He is so young but his force is so strong, Luke Skywalker is his name
Our freedom, he's gonna bring back
He has come to lead us into the light, it's time to stand up and fight

He flies among the stars
With the speed of light he goes
The dark side of the force
He'll never join

Yoda my master
Teach me how to fight
The evil Lord Vader
Is dying here to night

Star Wars
We fight for freedom
We fight for glory
We fight for all

Erk.

The Death Star is here
The Rebels have no fear

That is awfully awesome.

The punk band The Ernies has a lot of songs about Chemistry and Chemical Physics. You can't get much more geeky than that.

Oh and let's not forget Megadeth's ode to robotics (Psychotron), Anthrax's ode to Judge Dredd (I Am The Law), Slayer's ode to Rugby (Scum), and In Flames' little ode to Star Wars in Pinball Map.

A friend of mine reads it religiously. I don't see the appeal - he gave me a loan of the Apocalypse War anthology and I was like "....yeah, it was ok" when its meant to be BEST EVAR material. Go figure.

Indeed, history is quite awesome. Historically based lyrics have to be done iin the right way though or else it comes off as quite cheesy.

History is a wonderful source for lyrical content. Any mood or theme can be drawn out of a trip through the annals of time in the real world. For example, history provides us with situations of much more intense evil than anything a nerdy death metal kid could come up with in his mom's basement (Angel of Death anyone?)

I actually formed a black metal band called the Appian Way. All of the lyrics were based on the classical world(my main passion and source of inspiration) and were actually quite well written and very metal(not trying to be self agrandizing or anything). Such a shame that I'm such an asshole of a vocalist becuase a friend of mine wrote some crushing and beautiful epics for that band. Hopefully my drunkin thrash/grind project will actually come about. All I have to do for it is scream.

NO SHIT! And when you combine that with the lyrics (oh mighty warior... i am ready to ejaculate on your buffed-out hairy torso or the dark lord will take my beautiful princess)

You just can't beat the cheesines!

This is one of my favorite albums of all time, but geekiness is what it is, even if it's greatness as well (and geekiness I happen to share):

Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth

Why? because anyone who knows the Simarillion well enough to write and record this album is a geek. LOTR is one thing. The Silmarillion is another :P

Blind Guardian are one of my favourite bands. Yeah the LOTR thingy might be quite cheesy but the band deffinitely made up for the cheesiness by the great musicianship on that album.

And what's so wrong with history based lyrics?! They are great!! At least it shows that they're well read.
