I haven’t been following any of this thread. I gave up after the first couple of pages, but if this is what really happened then I'm with Rad. Saying you don't like a group of people b/c of the select few you encounter is flat out wrong. What about all the Europeans who hate Americans b/c the few they have met or the other way around? Guns do not make America a violent country. If there weren't guns, people would just go around stabbing each other with butter knives instead. Personally, if someone is intent on killing me, I'd rather they use a gun.

Anyway, the people killing with guns are almost always the people who bought them illegally because they had a criminal record and couldn't get a license to have it legally. Criminals make America violent, not guns. ;) If it wasn't for criminals, I wouldn't need a gun in the first place, you know.

If you say "I love Asians", isn't that just as discriminating as "I hate Negroes"? Don't mind me, that's just a thought. It's irrational to condemn an entire group of people for the actions of some.

Europeans don't understand how America works in relation to gun crimes. You think because it works for your mostly white, small countries that it will work in a very diverse and large country. That's not the case. Who commits most of the gun crimes here? Non-whites, mainly, and especially blacks. You don't have that to deal with in Europe on the scale that Americans do, but it IS a factor- one that cannot be overlooked. Allowing citizens to have guns, whether because they collect them, hunt with them, or want to have it for self-defense, does not really contribute to the crime rate. People who can legally obtain weapons and do so legally are not the people you need to be worried about committing crimes with them. It's the people who are getting them illegally that you have to worry about. And you could ban gun ownership here and there would still be criminals obtaining guns illegally and using them to commit crimes.

If you can't trust your neighbour to use his gun responsibly, then move somewhere else. People say I'm paranoid, but I'm not the one who's demanding the government take away people's guns because I can't trust my neighbour not to go on a shooting rampage with his gun collection. :roll:

Misha has a good point. Saying you love Asians is as all-encompassing as saying you hate black people. Do you love all Asians? Do I hate all black people? Peobably no, and no again. So just goes to show you that when someone says something about a group, it doesn't mean they're necessarily including all individuals in that group. ;) An important distinction.

In switzerland every family with a military-age male has an smg in the house. and we have extremely few gun murders. Oh, and Desolate, did you know that a person is like 3 times more likely to shoot a family member than a crook if they own a gun in the house? having a gun around is just asking for trouble. I mean, even Germany, and I can't think of a nation with a bloodier history than that has extremely few gun murders. or other murders. So if you want to talk about how good guns are, go do it to Chuck Heston and the rest of the fucktards at the NRA.

I still think guns laws are the main factor. You could say they'd be stabbing each other instead but people can fight back if you had a knife, and its a lot less likely (or they have to be a lot more determined) to die.
