from the tracks I heard on myspace they sound great,
but the lyrics to the "Prophecy" are extremly cheesy, borderline horrible IMO. are most of their songs like that ?
or is it only their "Dragon Slayer" album ?

They don't sing about Dragons at all after the first album. Basically, Snowy Shaw became a full-time member and said "look guys, your lyrics are shite. Let me deal with it." He took on a lot of the songwriting on the next two albums and they became less Power Metal and more traditional. All three albums are good to great, but my personal favourite is the middle one, Evilized.

WHG has like... 4 out of 10 fast songs. right? it's not my fave SA but the good songs (Abandoned, Pleased, Brainwashed, Exploited, The Cage, Victorias Secret and Vhampagne Bath) are awesome.

Lost Horizon is more than music to me, I can't describe it. They are amazing!

If you haven't already, check out Hibria, ridiculously badass musicianship. Ultra melodic, mostly fast, but some mid tempo songs. I haven't been that excited about a band in a long time.

If you can get any of the Viper albums. Its Andre Matos....or whatever his name is. He was in that band before he was in Angra. It's pretty sweet stuff. Really good power metal before it became infected with gayness.

lost horizon are good, but I don't feel that they're as uplifting as Sonata Arctica... who are more than music to me.

No one likes Suspyre...

Just kidding...but dang Clint. That was a hell of a list, I've got homework to do tonight researching some of those bands you put down. Thanks for giving me something to do to not be bored when I get home.

I like Suspyre and actually have reviewed their debut on the Metal CD Ratings site (wasn't sure if it fit into my large list above BTW). I listened to it just a few days ago at home while painting some doors too. :D
Honestly, the Suspyre debut was the hardest CD for me to rate of the last few years (not kidding! ). I absolutely love about half of the CD (obviously the more power metallish songs), but the other "creative" songs didn't quite click with me. I feel the entire CD will appeal to some metal fans out there (obviously it has to Eyesore), but as hard as I tried, I Just didn't *get* half of the CD. :?
Regardless, it's a CD I listen to a lot and I look forward to their upcoming sophomore effort. :D

As far as my list above... it's very large, so if any of you (Reverend Clayton for example) would like to tell me EXACTLY what you're looking for, I can narrow the list down to 5 or 10 easily. :D
Just email me at metalcdratings@yahoo.com and we'll go from there... 8)

Well, I love SA too.

Oh, and +1 on Clint's Freedom Call suggestion. Get the album Eternity.

Couldnt agree with you more, ever since I downloaded Wolf and Raven from the old Napster I have never looked back. I recently purchased the live DVD for revenge's sake and these guys are awesome

I saw SA live in Ft. Lauderdale in March in a small club, must have been 200 people max. Amazing show, the opening band sucked ass, but SA were incredible. The DVD has extremely bad camera work IMHO.

Thanks for the long list, i'll check some of those when I get some time. I've got 1 CD of Rhapsody(Symphony of enchanted Lands ) and i'm really not into that type of power metal... don't want to offend the fans or anything but for lack of words I find them too gay. And lyrics in the Dungeons and dragon style...not my thing.
The lyrics can be on fantasy but they also must have a serious side so that I can somewhat relate best exemple that comes to mind is Kamelot. When I listen to stuff like Rhapsody or something like Dream Evil's song "Prophecy" I can't help but roll my eyes and turn it off.

also high voices like Kotipelto's on Elements 1 & 2 annoy me after a while. Rather have singers like Roy Khan of Kamelot , Sonata's Tony Kakko or Tom Englund of Evergrey

Evergrey - unique prog/power band

I have all their albums except their newest.
Love the band but Inner circles was a huge deception for me and
I have a feeling their newest release won't be that great.

Inner Circles is very good if you can get past the melodious nature of it. Monday Morning Apocalypse is more typical, but still a bit different from their earlier stuff. I think both are very good albums.

I always appreciate feedback.

I heard the new firewind and decided I needed to hear more of them. Might want to check them out if Rhapsody is too "gay" for you. I've always enjoyed the music despite the lyrics, however, I prefer music with more meaningful ones.
