Which do you prefer? Until a few days ago I pretty much always listened to albums in their entirety, but lately whenever I can't really decide on anything to listen to I put my mp3 player on shuffle all of its songs, and sometimes its really weird (like when it goes from Minus the Bear to Nile to Neurosis), but mostly its like listening to the radio where I choose all the songs.

I still think I prefer lsitening to full albums though.

I could never put anything on shuffle. I listen to albums from beginning to end. Always.

Albums 90% of the time. If I only have 10-15 minutes I'll find a couple songs to listen to, but usually all the way through each album.

Both. Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm lifting I need to hear something either aggresive or something uplifting. When I'm driving on a long road trip I'll go through the entire album.

I like shuffling albums. I especially like shuffling albums I know very well. It's not like it's much of a surprise when the next song comes on, but the fact my brain doesn't anticipate the next song just kind of keeps it fresh.

I hace CD booklet that holds 200 CDs and I have that full of CDRs with WMAs of my favorite bands. I just rip the CDs into WMA and throw them all on a CDR, then play them on shuffle. It's cool spanning a discography, you know? I can throw on my Savatage/Jon Oliva's Pain/Circle II Circle/Doctor Butcher/Chris Caffrey CDR and hit shuffle. It's great. At work I have burnt like 20GB of music onto my PC, I have them all set up in Windows Media Player as separate playlists per band (and genres, too, like 80's Rock, Chick Metal, Prog-Metal, etc.), but I also have on playlist labeled Everything. That's fucking cool. I could go from Ani Difranco to Dark Tranquillity to Def Leppard to Rusted Root to John Butler Trio to Queensryche to Kottonmouth Kings to Edge Of Sanity and so on. It's great.

Shuffling is definitely my favorite way to listen to albums, but only albums I know. New albums go in track order until I'm familiar with it.

Always the whole album, because I like getting the feeling of continuity and the atmosphere build that most albums have because of the way they ordered the tracks.

Indeed. As a fellow doom listener, I think that shuffling doom tracks would ruin the purpose of doom.

Full albums most of the time, but on long road trips I'll use shuffle and play the "what band is this?" game. Lots of fun when driving for eight hours between Mass and VA.

I hate shuffling. I usually play whole albums but I do tend to pick a favourite and play it 10 times in repeat.

Completely depends on my mood, If it's the first few times I've listened to something it's always the full album, but sometimes I can't be bothered choosing and just stick my whole collection (in mp3's) on shuffle.

Certain genres need to be listened to from beginning to end; doom, black. Concept albums are the same way. I can't listen to Blind Guardian - NIME unless it's beginning to end.

When i first get CDs it will be from beginning to end for the first 5 listens, once i know which tracks i like i'll play them more often then the others. But some things need to be heard as a full album.
