May be it's because I'm such a big Alice in Chains fan, but I'm actually somehow starting to take an interest in this band. So, yay or nay?

And please state WHY you like/dislike them (with something a little better than, "They Suck").

Sully Erna is a cool name. Only heard a few songs, and just found it boring. Plus, post-nu-metal doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

BOOOO Godspank!!!!!!!

They are a shame to the Alice In Chains name. Their first album was okay, but then every subsequesnt album sounds exactly the same! They take no chances with their music, they just recycle old riffs and throw in an acoustic song every now and then. They got real boring, real quick.

I would call them more of a modern rock band, but even nu-metal isn't a stretch.

As for the band, I like them. I mean, you won't get anything here that blows your mind. It's just pretty basic modern heavy rock, but they have some damn catchy songs. I wouldn't go spending $15 per CD, but they're worthy of being saved from the used bins. I don't have their acoustic album or the newest one, in fact, I don't think I have the album before the acoustic album either. Hmmm...now I have to buy them. Hahaha. I hate having incomplete discographies! Hahaha.

I will say this, though, that song "I Stand Alone" is fucking badass! That's a monster riff right there!!

Godsmack is one of those bands that, in the rare occasion that I'm listening to the radio, they come on I don't mind and can slightly enjoy. Would I buy an album? No.

Not the worst band out there, but I'll take AiC instead.

No one should even be discussing Alice In Chains in this thread. They sound nothing alike. I realize the name is a tribute and Sully used to play in an Alice In Chains tribute band, but they still don't sound anything alike.

I disagree, the fact that their name is Godsmack and they are obviously influenced by AiC makes that an impossibility.

Makes what an impossibility? The question of this thread was based on Godsmack's music, not the origin of their name. Musically the two bands are nothing alike.

I realize that. What I mean is that Godsmack is very obviously musically influenced by Alice in Chains. Seriously, listen to "Go Away" or whatever their first single was called. Huge AiC worship. Not an exact carbon copy, but the influence is definitely there, especially in the vocals. Same with Days of the New. What I am saying is that people are going to equate the two due to this whether you agree or not.

Well, I don't hear it in the least. I think Godsmack have far more in common with a band like Creed than Alice In Chains. I see a name tribute, not a musical tribute.

Yeah, its not blatantly obvious, so I can see your side. I just remember the first time I heard them, it sounded like a Layne impersonator on vocals. I guess that's the same deal with Creed. Musically, nothing like Pearl Jam. However, the vocals are very similar.

Their acoustic stuff is decent enough, but when they try to RAWk it all falls apart. I think the guitarist knows that one bar chord, and is just going to milk every possible combination he can from it.

I've been a nay on them since the second album came out. The first album was not half bad, but since then I think they've really gone down hill. My main problem with listening to it is his voice. Coming from a singer, he usually sounds off key to me...and that throws my whole listening into whack. Once again...I am a nay, but if you like generic rock...there are a lot bands out there that are worse off then they are.
