Those of you who're missing Sentenced may want to pick up the new Poisonblack album when it comes out in August. Obviously they're not Sentenced and anyone who's heard Escapexstacy knows it had more in common with the likes of To/Die/For and For My Pain, you could even stretch and hear a little of that HIM sound. Of course, a lot of that sound and style came from the vocals of J.P. Leppäluoto from Charon. With the demise of Sentenced and the departure of J.P, Ville Laihiala decided to take on vocal duties for the new Poisonblack album, Lust Stained Despair.

And so I come to the point of this thread: Lust Stained Despair, while still maintaining that To/Die/For quality, has a really good dose of that latter day Sentenced style! Sure, Ville Laihiala on vocals lends a persuasive hand to that sound, but this album is also heavy and a bit faster than Escapexstacy, less mid-paced and brooding. Don't be fooled, of course, this still isn't Sentenced, but at this point it's the closest you will get.

Lust Stained Despair is excellent. I'm surprised, actually. I liked Escapexstacy, but it wasn't anything special within the goth-metal genre, you know? Just a really good release. This new album, again, offers nothing innovative to the genre, and maybe my love of Sentenced is clouding my judgement, but I think this new album is killer! Surprise of 2006? Surely.

From Lust Stained Despair:

RUSH (Yousendit)
NAIL (Yousendit)

From Escapexstacy:

LOVE INFERNAL *
IN LUST (30-second clip)
THE EXCITER (30-second clip)

* Goddamn that "No More Tears" part!!

Sounds interesting. I had never heard Sentenced till I bought The Funeral Album a couple months ago. I liked it, very different. Ville's vocals are quite unique. So I'll have to keep a look out for these guys at the store.

Dude, Sentenced are excellent. Their first four or so albums are a bit heavier, darker, and more aggressive, but if you like Funeral Album you should love everything they've done. Definitely get you some Sentenced. I was sad to see them go, but they left quite a killer back catalogue for us all.

Poisonblack is pretty neat. They released a pretty nice, solid album with Escapexstacy. I was hoping that wasn't going to be their only release.

Listening to Rush, it sounds like Escapexstacy but with better songwriting and a slightly clearer production. It sounds really cool. Can't wait for it. 8)

Yeah, definitely don't expect a new sound with this album, it's just Poisonblack from a different angle, I guess, because Ville is singing. Plus, a lot of the songs are definitely a bit heavier.

I fucking love Poisonblack and that escapextasy album. So fucking bad ass. Huge fan of To/Die/For, Charon, Entwine, For my Pain and all that Finnish shit. I even like older HIM. I will be buying this, is it on CM again?

Sentenced is top 5 for me all time probably, especially the trio of Frozen, Down and Crimson. Godly.......

Dude from Charon sang on Escapextasy right? Now it is the Sentenced guy? Fucking cool. I need some new Finnish shit, the new Amorphis is godly but I need more! All my shit from 97 to 2001 is getting old.

You have to get the 3 albums I mentioned. Cold white Light and Funeral Album are ok, but those first 3 after they changed their style are so great, Songs like Killing me Killing you, The Suicider etc.......so good.

Fuck Ken, this new Poisonblack is incrediable. Thanks!

Poisonblack's new album is one of my most anticipated albums of 2006.

The two new tracks are great!

Cannot wait for this :)

I'm pretty surprised by this thread, guys. I expected a lot more negative replies!

Seriously, I love this style of goth rock/metal. I even like the new HIM stuff, I don't think their style has changed much at all. Obviously the problem is their fanbase, which is annoying. I generally keep my distance, though, so I still enjoy HIM.

I still need that For My Pain EP, the IV album from To/Die/For and their Little Deaths single. I don't own anything from Charon. :(

New clip from the new To/Die/For album: LIKE NEVER BEFORE (sounds a little different)

Ken, you have to get all of Charon if you like this style. Especially Tearstainded and Downhearted for sure....

I like HIM I don't give a fuck if 15 year old girls love Ville...... Especially their early stuff.

I like the 69 Eyes too, songs like Gothic Girl and Violet Blue are way cool

Keep in mind kids when buying Sentenced their first 2 albums are Melodic Death Metal like early Dark Tranquility and Amok is some kind of Nwobhm Finnish stuff, from Down up they have the same style though.

You know who else is great at this style but not Finnish? Lacrimas Profundre and Darkseed..Especially Burning: A wish and Give me Light respectively.

If you all can find them anymore NB put out a set of comps in the late 90's early 2000's called Beauty and Darkness. Check out Vols 1 through 4 if you want to find a lot of cool bands. That is where I first got wind of To/Die/For, Lacuna Coil, The Black Leauge, Lacrimosa and a bunch of others.
