I was listening to The Fragile today for the first time in like a year and besides the lyrics being kinda goofy it actually has some cool guitar sounds and overall interesting textures to it. I wish Trent Reznor would make an entirely instrumental album because the instrumentals are amazing, its funny how because its a double album people called them filler. .

anythoughts on them?

Fragile was a good and underrated album. Obviously pre-Fragile NIN was excellent too. I think With Teeth was pretty terrible though.

Yeah... I think I listened to it about twice.

A Downward Spiral is my favorite album of theirs. Trent Reznor is a very good composer, musician, and vocalist. His lyrics can range from a bit empty to very deeply melancholic and introspective poetry. The music can at times be a bit too chaotic, but very well done and composed nonetheless. Much respect to Nine Inch Nails.

Glad to see some of you one here like 'em. Always been one of my favourite bands, With Teeth was a disappointment. I actually really liked it at first but now just despise it.

Fragile suffers a bit from double album syndrome. Too much filler. Downward Spiral is one of the best non-metal albums of the 90'.

Indeed, his instrumentals are fantastic. Ripe With Decay is such a depressing song. The ones he does on the Lost Highway sondtrack are excellent as well. That's a very underrated soundtrack, actually. Angelo Badlamenti rules.

But it doesn't beat The Backstreet Boys... They're heavy, man!

I always kind of hated NIN, not b/c of the sound, but because Trent ripped off everyone from Skinny Puppy to Ministry and is a dumb druggie. Maybe I'll gi'it another go...

He actually admitted to ripping off Skinny Puppy, and claiming they are a huge influence.

Which actually got them a big(ger) record contract, then they spent all the money on drugs and fucked themselves over ^^!!

Listening to NIN again, I realise that I find Trent's voice very annoying. I'll keep it up, but this is a major problem...

Edit: Plus, next to Ministry it just sounds crap. :D

You hit the nail on the head. I really liked The Fragile, especially the Left disc, but With Teeth was a huge letdown.

I would just give up on it then. Trent's voice is pretty much the focal point of the majority of his work. I can see how you wouldn't like it, he can get pretty whiny at times. No use in trying to force yourself to like it.

You're right. Maybe by the time I'm 40 and have taken that many drugs, I'll be in the mood for that sort of whining. Until then...

The next time I hear Closer I'm personally going to bite off the kneecap of the unfortunate standing next to me and beat the poor bastard to death with it. :x
