After reading an interview with Dave Grohl in Acoustic Guitar, I was compelled to pick up my Foo Fighters album again. This is because Dave went on to talk about his inspirations and his view on the guitar as an instrument, on music, etc. So I decided I would give The Colour And The Shape another listen, after about a year. And I realized the lyrical brilliance of their music. The sound, which can drift from melodic hard rock to punk, does not always appeal to me(especially the punk elements). Their use of melody is lovely(i.e. Everlong, February Stars), and complements the other elements of their music well.

These things are all in my opinion, of course, so: What do you think of the Foo Fighters?

Me loves the Foo! Seriously, Dave Grohl is a tremendous musician and songwriter! Just listen to Probot, all those songs could have been written by the band that the singers are/were from! Dare I say he's a musical genius?

They basically suck. Some of their older stuff is pretty good. Everything I've heard from the last two albums is horrendous.

Nyah. Probot was kinda cool though. Lemmy was in it.

Yuck! The very definition of Commercial Rock music. They were sorta entertaining in the early days with all of the Mentos parodies and such, but when they decided to go "serious" it went to shit. Dave Grohl's voice sucks, and the guitar work is boring. Not to mention the cliche Alt Rock lyrics. He was a damn good drummer, and should keep his ugly face behind the drum kit. And Probot sucked, that's the only time that Cronos, Lemmy, and King Diamond bored the shit out of me.

I think Foo Fighters are good although I have yet to hear them make a better song than Everlong.

The rule of the star trek movies applies to foos albums, the even ones are brilliant the odd ones are average to crap. I've always had 'em playing regularly as they're one of the few rockier acts my non metal mates like.

Very good live an' all.

I just can stand first two albums, specially The Colour & the shape. I find rest of FF boring as hell.
Probot is good, but too diffuse to be great, more a curiosity for the different singer's fans than a record to play often.

Disagreeeeeeeeeeeee! The shittiness of Grohl's voice cannot be hidden when they play live. He sucks. Plus, they do all these boring jams during songs (when its done well I like that sort've thing) that just slow everything up. I've seen them twice, two of my least favourite gigs.

We'll have to agree to disagree then my jurassic friend. I've only seen them once but really enjoyed it. Maybe I'm just gay for Grohl.

Yet another band I've been meaning to get into. Which album should I pick up first?

I like the Foo Fighters, although I'm not very high on their new album. There is Nothing Left to Lose was the high point, in my opinion.

And Probot was awesome, especially the song with Cronos.

I find their songs too similar. Need blastbeats desperately.

Funny you should mention that for I too decided to go back and revisit the first two albums and they are every bit as good as I remember. The rest is severely hit or miss for me.

Not a big fan, but the Everlong comments are spot on. The melody used on that track is excellent.
