After seeing them live at metaltown in Gothenburg a couple of days ago I can honestly say that CoF was, and still is one of my favourite bands. Damnation and a Day has a special place in my heart, along with Midian.
While looking at the their image I think it's quite creative. Really great clothes, fitting make-up, and an public attitude to boast their songs and lyrics. I see many reasons for not liking it, but you can't overlook the fact that what they do, they do damn good.

CoF wrote some fantastic music. Damnation and a Day is probably their best album yet.

Sure, they're cheesy as all hell, but I still enjoy them.

Because they always had their moments but the faggoth imagery put everyone off until in the last years everyone figured out that all of it was actually tongue in cheek. It's easy to like their music when you don't take them seriously.

CoF would be 10x better if Dani stuck with his growls and did away with the high pitched stuff.

I kind of liked them back when I was getting into extreme metal a few years ago, and I sort of liked anything with distorted guitars, double bass and growls simply because it was so new to me.

Since then, I haven't really listened to them at all. I know a few people who really like them, so I occasionally give an album or two another listen, but even their better stuff just doesn't stay with me. Principle of Evil Made Flesh for example, isn't bad, but it's not the kind of album that keeps me coming back for more listens.

I agree. When I was first getting into Metal I picked up Damnation and A Day and I thought that it was brilliant. Since then, I have simply lost interest in them, for the most part. I agree with Kath in that it is easier to dig them if you do not take them seriously. If you take them seriously, than you will quickly realize the pretention of it all. Other than that, they are a talented band, yet I simply no longer hold any particular interest in them.

Nick Barker. Looks like Uncle Fester from the Addams family, :)
Nice guy tho, met him when he played drums for Borknagar on a tour.
He's played for Dimmu Borgir too.

Yeah, I was like (after he told me waht bands he had drummed for) "I hate ALL of those bands." He lives near me, maybe I should get him to drum for my band.

Same as what Kathy said. Once i realised it was a joke, i now admire Mr. Filth for making so many dumbass goths worship him. The music is just not my kind of thing though.

And yet can inexplicably drum like fuck!

On the subject of "wouldn't think he was a drummer," I saw a midget drum solo last night!

I gotta admit though they make real creepy videos.

You're right about that. I prefer Dimmu's material over Cradle's.

I know many people hate Dani's voice. I couldn't take it at first. But as time went on, I started to like it and appreciate it. Not the recent stuff. I'm talking about material from their early years rite up to Midian. Somebody said that it was all tweaked effects, it's not his real voice. But my belief was laid assured when I saw a video of him warming up before the Heavy Lefthanded and Candid gig.

Yeah it's his real voice, and that's damn impressive even if you don't like it.

Really? I was thought latter Dimmu was way gayer the CoF.

If you think DaaD is their best you haven't heard their good shit.. Seriously, get Dusk and her Embrace and the Vampyre Ep, those fucking albums are sick and rule, Cruelty and the Beast owns hard too.

You want the BEST album of that type, fucking ever. Get Covenant (before the used the K) Nexus Polaris. Is seriously probably the best commercial symphonic BM album ever, it is SO fucking good.

BTW dude, I will be probably be spending a couple of days in Melaka soon, any Malay Metal around there? Last time I spent like a month there and did nothing but work and go to Chinese food places........

Dani has never denied that he is a King Diamond and Iron Maiden freak. They just took those influences and applied it to extreme Metal. I could never understand why people called them posers? They are fast as fuck, nasty and Filth can write a fucking song. Just jealous I guess. Who gives a fuck if 15 year old goth chicks finger themselves to the band. They play good, REAL Heavy Metal.

Amen dude, I should I have just dittoed what you wrote, it is exactly how I feel. I don't like Midian that much either, but a song like "Her ghost in the Fog" is just classic fucking Heavy Metal, it can not be denied.

You know, Cruelty brought thee Orchids and Red Rose for a Devils whore still give me Chills and I have owned that shit for a long time.
