Trivium's vocalist is amazing in his other band Capharnaum.

Not even American Metal. Trivium aren't Metal, plain and simple. I don't care how many "It's close to Metal" moments they have in their music.

They're most definitely metal. What are you on? Musically they're very rooted in traditional metal and thrash. The vocals take them down the metalcore path. As for their look, whatever, this isn't 1986, folks. Take a look at most people here, do we all look like metalheads? Fuck no.

I don't care what they look like. Don't be so quick to make assumptions. I have indeed listned to them, since everyone and their dog hypes them to the moon. There are elements of Metal, yes. But make no mistake, they are a Metalcore act, and not just because of the vocals. Just because they did a couple of half-assed Metal covers doesn't make them Metal.

I have listened to and grew to hate this band more than any other.

+1, if he sang like that for his harsh vocals in Trivium and had Jason Suecof's awesome riffage I might like Trivium

it's a very good chance that Trivium don't listen to Carcass... but you never know since the video was played a lot in Canada during the early to mid 90's and probably was in the US too.
Wouldn't matt heafy have been like 10 years old then?

I'd say its probably just chance. I mean there's only so many rhythms you can do in a metal song, and its not a spectacularily unique drum intro.

I guess so. But keep in mind I was 12 when I started watching Death, Napalm Death, and Carcass videos in the early 90's on the Power 30 on Much Music. Anything is possible.

I actually ran into one of their members (I think) in the Burlington Coat Factory. 8)

I should have separated my thoughts, the comment about their looks was just a general comment, only directed at those who were discussing it. My fault.

As for the band, I agree, they are metalcore because of the vocals and melodies. I explained this. But at the end of the day, metalcore is metal with a little hardcore.

Well said. I bought a Trivium CD a while ago and I'm listening to it right now and still enjoying it. Nothing wrong with metalcore if it's done right.

I agree with this man. The best metalcore I've heard is Isor, August Burns Red and Thine Eyes Bleed =/
