Iv only quite recently got into true black metal. Iv got transilvanian hunger, A blaze in the northern sky, in the nightside eclipse, but i dunno where to go next!I love the production on said darkthrone albums and want more of the kinda, pure and cold(excuse the pun) black metal. I also like the slower doomy parts of ABITNS. What to get next tho?Mayhem,Burzum,Bathory,Immortal,Carpathian Forest?Ne ideas?CHeers

Burzum, definitely. Then if you like that check out Noenum and DRUDKH (seriously DRUDKH rulez!). And maybe also Nyktalgia and Interitus and Uruk-Hai. Also Ildjarn. (thanks to Astaroth!)

Then, get all the classics, starting with Ulver (you must get Nattens Madrigal and Bergtatt), then working to lesser bands like mayhem. For Mayhem Live in Leipzig is good, better than the De Mysteriis..... album. And of course get all the emperor albums.

For some epic, almost classical stuff, get some Taake, Mystic Forest, Wolves in the throne room, Nokturnal Mortum and Satyricon(not new satyricon!).

Ildjarn has some fucked up productions if thats what you like. Behemoth may also suit you, with a style near-ish to Darkthrone.

Bathory is viking metal, but still raw in terms of production and atmosphere. Windir and Falkenbach are also good viking stuff, as is Enslaved ad Vreid-(in terms of fast riffing style)

For raw and cold, very hateful stuff, check out the USBM acts like leviathan, xasthur, lurker of chalice, Krieg, Nachtmystium. All of these bar Krieg will deliver the slow doomy BM.

DO NOT get any dark funeral or gorgoroth or demon burger.

For very good stuff i cant be bothered to group up, go some Bekhira, Osculum Infame and Deathspell Omega NOW! (Thank you Eisenfaust and Husker for recommending those!)

And Velvet Cacoon is good stuff, not doomy or cold and hateful, all i can do is say its delirious and fucking mental. Get some!

And thank you to all the people on this site, who showed me almost all of those bands. :P

Pure and cold black metal eh. You've come to the right place. If you like Darkthrone you must check out Carpathian Forest. I think you should check out all the bands you listed, those are the essentials, especially Burzum, you gotta love Burzum. Except immortal, they suxxorz. For Mayhem you'd only like De Mysteriis, the later albums are shite.

I dunno exactly what you're looking for but you're obviously a fan of Norwegian bm so I'll recommend the new Norwegian bm bands that kick ass like the old school. Taake, Jotunspor, Koldbrann, Massemord, Secht, Stillhet, Ulvhedner and last but not the least, Lja (the best evar, you have to try Lja).

Also from the old essentials you might wanna check out Ulver, especially Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal. Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times, Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse, Godly stuff.

Other than Norway I can generally recommend Deathspell Omega, Funeral Mist, Drudkh, Leviathan (US), Watain and Blut aus Nord, all my favourite bands, they're awesome.

Especially Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord and fucking Drudkh probably my three favorite black metal bands of all time.
Also Mystic Forest, Negura Bunget, Temnozor, Nokturnal Mortum and Graveland.

Rather than spend too much time on another one of these threads I'll just suggest you reread Kaathaarian(except I do like Immortal) and Dago's posts, because they are essentially my opinion.

Dago get bonus points for the Negura Bunget mention-although I worry about their upcoming album because that recent ep kinda sucked.

Well friends have mentioned a lot of good bands but I didn't see these or I did not pay enough attention, anyhow here they are: Lunar Aurora, Lucifugum, Sin Origin (Upgraded Darkthrone!), Velonnic Sin, Gromm, Horna, Hate Forest, (old) In The Woods, Khold, Macabre Omen, Necromantia, Teratism.

Might have missed it but I didn't see anybody mentioned Wyrd. I enjoy Vargtimmen Parts 1 and 2 quite a bit.

As far as albums go, here are some suggestions:

Satyricon-Nemesis Divina

Darkthrone-A Blaze In The Northern Sky

1349-Hellfire

You can't possibly buy all that crap for years. Download, figure out what you like, then start buying the stuff you care for most.

Oh, and you like Akercocke? Then try: Fleurety, Ved Buens Ende, Sigh, Arcturus. Avant garde bm, yum yum.

all the ones I know of are mentioned above, though I highly recommend Wyrd, but they're not cold or pure black metal, but check them out anyway.
