I fall into the: Teuonla is a Masterpiece, forever untouched and never duplicated, Tales from the Thousand lakes is top 5 Death Metal album of all time and Far from the Sun is a horrid piece of crap with no life to it and Elegy was just too much of everything that got jumbled together. Newbies, buy Chapters, has like 2 or 3 songs from each era and a good cross section and you can easily decide what you like the best (no Far from the sun crap but you all don't need that album)
Otherwise not a bad discussion of Amorphis, although I don't get the Anathema (modern) and Katatonia comparisons at all. Shit, now you will have everyone thiking they are some 3rd rate Radio head with dude from the Cure doing vocals....ha. Actually I like new Anathema and worship Kataonia but don't get that comparison at all?????
Well, they don't sound like Katatonia or Anathema, but I think they done some things similar. It's really not a comparison, but a reference point.
As for Far From The Sun, I agree that it can come off a bit flat sometimes, but I think it's just a little too raw for its own good sometimes and that detracts from the overall listening experience a bit. There's not as much life in it compared to Tuonela and Am Universum, but I do still think it's a good album. It's far from a bad album.
The only things I really can't dig on much of the time is the 7" EP and the Privilege Of Evil EP, they're very generic. Just plain old death metal, there's nothing to it. Occasionally I can dig on it, I won't say it's bad, but it's not really my thing. From Karelian onward they're excellent.
