The internet is for pointless arguments. I can go to Lethal Wrestling and get into an argument about how Ric Flair was a better wrestler than Dusty Rhodes, and it get as heated as an argument here. It's what the net was created for, if everybody held hands and got along all of the time, this place would have maybe 4 threads.

some metalheads are as bad as other unsophisticated music fans (rappers, poppers) in that they can't take any criticism of their music of choice. People have to be open and intelligent while discussing music. Also I agree to what Kathy said. If you don't like Yngwie Malmsteen, don't say he sucks, because that mother can shred his balls of with one hand tied behind his back. Just say you don't like him. Anything else is just offensive.

Well I do admit, the lovey dovey lyrics are pretty crappy. But musically wise, I think they're pretty decent. I'm not a HUGE fan, but I surely don't think they suck.

I find my taste in music these days is fluctuating so wildly that something I liked a few months back I now can't stand, and the other way around.

How about this for a talking point: there are no good or bad bands. Only the imaginary ones that fans create through praise or scorn. Therefore, in saying a band sucks, you're completely missing the point.

Just because some hypothetical person might like it does not mean it has any artistic merit. By that logic, this:

i think that there are definite terms of good or bad. if a band can't play in time/keep a beat etc then they are actually bad musicians. but then again the punk, hardcore, free jazz, and black metal scenes probably disagree with me :(

also i think the "you dont understand it" argument is kind of dumb, because you can understand why other people like music but still not want to listen to it very often.

In other circumstances I would agree with you, but this board is so fucking touchy that every topic could turn into a seven page monstrosity at any moment.

On the Shadows Fall board, all those 37 years ago, there was no point in being a word mincing faggot, but here it avoids a lot of stupid pointless drama.

I don't agree with Zad, some music is just better than other music, Mahler is factually better than Blink 182. However, you can say something sucks meaning you don't like it, or say you don't like it but still respect it. There is some stuff that I don't like, because I don't understand it, that doesn't mean I don't respect it. Saying something sucks is no worse than saying something's good, it should be possible to say both, but it's confusing per ce.
