At the risk of insulting everyone on this forum, myself included, has anyone else noticed that us metal fans turn into total douches as soon as anyone mentions anything bad about a band we're a fan of? It's not so bad on this forum, but I recently tried posting on another one, and after one comment in a forum marked "Bands you hate but most people like" I got a chorus of "Fuck off fag" from half a dozen people. No intelligent discussion as to why they thought my opinion was wrong, just random insults. And I've noticed that metal fans above fans of other genres seem to take any comment about their preferred bands personaly. I'm probably guilty of it some time too, but I hope that at least I try and give some reasons for why I disagree. It's rediculous.

Simple: Music fans are selfish.

Most (all?) music fans are like that. I only do it if the person otherwise has good taste in music, otherwise I pass them off as just another person whose taste should be ignored.

As an update, I just got banned from that forum.

Hahaha. The only time I get like that is when the person's opinion is just blatantly wrong. If someone was arguing with you telling you the sky is green, would you be cool with that? I'm talking about things like Chaos A.D. is nu-metal, Burn My Eyes is nu-metal, Avenged Sevenfold is power metal, leeeeeee is cool, shit like that, just totally wrong. At that point the claim of it being opinion is just stupid.

Certain people get their panties in a wad over nothing.It's one thing being passionate about the music you like it's another going around getting into crybaby mode and bitch about someone not liking their music.

It's these types of people *cough* leeee *cough* that have no social life whatsoever.They can't get laid so they take it out on forum people.

So what do you do about it.Just ignore it and move on.Continuing to argue with set person you run the risk of getting second hand idiocy and you don't want that do you.

But, then again, you have to take into consideration that all metal, whether "true" or not, could possibly be seen as in bad, or ignorable taste. I, personally, believe most metal to be in horrible taste, yet I still listen to it daily, because it is simply in my own preference, and I enjoy it; I do not believe my preference or taste to be greater or more important than another's, simply different. The thing is that many people, especially metal fans, can be very tunnel-visioned, conceded, and self-indulgent to the point they place their taste above another's and consider it to be more important or real; ignoring themselves the relation and preferential difference of these tastes altogether.

I dunno, having an opinion is one thing. I can respect that when someone says "I don't like Darkthrone". It's totally cool with me, your own taste, but if you say "Darkthrone sucks" then I'm coming to kick your ass. Just because you don't like it don't say it sucks, you're disrespecting a legend here and you will get your answer.

Musical discourse becomes very dull when we all have to respect each others opinion. Some bands are just better than other.

Dude, if I don't like something I think it sucks. It's the same thing, it's just that one is the real way to say it and the other is the Christian way. It's frickin' and fuckin', shoot and shit, goddamn and gosh darn. It's all the same.

And Darkthrone sucks.

not really, if i say something sucks it means i'm confounded as to how anyone could ever like it, but if i say i dont like something it means i can tell the band has talent and knows what they're doing, but it's not something i really enjoy listening to.
