I dont write, or play an instrument.

How the hell do you know if you'd be any good at a certain instrument? I want to start learning something, but i dont know what.

Hey I always thought that as well, I mean what if I'm totally talented in playing a weird instrument, like saxophone or whatever, how the hell will I find that out? I may be a sleeping giant over here.

Theres no such thing as been talented on an instrument, its all about how much you practice, more you do the better you'll get. So just pick the instrument you like the most, and enjoy it.

EDIT someone beat me to it! lol

Okay that's completely bullshit. I've seen a 5 year old kid play the shit out of the piano, people who are masters of piano who played like 50 years look up to that kid, how's this not talent? There is something called musical talent, some people have it, some people don't. Period.

Exactly, and it's possible to have a talent for rhythm, or a talent for melody, or both, or none. It's a matter of practise surely, but talent and feeling for music is the basis.

well i agree that certain people are indeed naturally talented but i think for most people its just a case of how much you practice rather then just being able to pick up an instrument and be able to play it. thats the point i was making.

Marijuana, acid, etc. can provide inspiration, yet one must not see it as a crutch to rely on.

being a pothead, I can tell you it produces more self-satisfaction than actual inspiration... it creates the illusion of inspiration but when the effect's over, you realise most of what you created is not that good...

Also being a pothead, I agree with you. It can create many illusions as to inspiration, freedom, etc.

trying out various instruments wont ensure that you will be good at any of it, because at the end of the day, you need the passion and creativity. it's no point being good at something when you're just playing for the sake of playing, and not enjoying yourself. sometimes playing something that you're not good at, but as long as you enjoy playing and have a shitload of interest....it may take you higher. but of course, you do have to try out different instrtuments in order to pick which is the most fun and enjoyable to flirt around with. and the rest, my son, is practice.

being a former pothead, i can say it didn't really have to much affect on how i write. In fact the only thing difference i notice now that i've quit (cut down would be more accurate) is that my dreams are more real, and i can remember more of them.
