Also people getting all bent out of shape because I think a band sucks. i have my reasons...I'm sure you've read them all at great length, but we've all been falling into this trap of letting our opinions get the best of us. i hate Edguy, and most of you don't. Just because the majority likes something doesnt justify it. Metal isnt a popularity contest. Its something that grew from a really narrow small group of devoted fans to a more collective affair. i don't like the new trends in metal and I don't like how its now been cleaned up and made "fun" for everyone.

You guys like this, thats fine. It doesnt work for me. I realize I come off as an arrogant prick, but we've had these same discussions before. Nothing has to get personal. I do resent the fact though that only one or two people are actually forming arguments against me, the rest are just onlookers. I realize its an open forum, but for the sake of argument, if you're not involved in the discussion, just shut up. I dont care if you don't like me. And you have to do better than just quoting one part of my rants and claiming that its the basis for my entire argument. this seems to be happening a lot. So don't take anything I say personally, and if you don't like my argument tell me why other than making a generalization about how I'm an elitist bastard. Derncare has been doing a good job of this, Stefan to some degree does this as well but he doesnt go as in depth with it.

Also , one more thing. I like arguing points like this, its better than everyone sitting around and thinking the same thing.

Well, I still don't think you understand the history of metal, since the original metal bands actually played massive venues and put on theatrical shows. Your description of metal's history is really the origin of thrash metal and some other types, which generally brought in punk influences, a genre that DID start out as something for a small group.

And "fun" is something music is just meant to be. It's a form of entertainment. While it is about artistic expression, it cannot exist without people who want to be entertained by it.

I used to buy into the whole thing about being dark and anti-everything, but I grew up. Reality is that life can be fun if you let it be and anyone who is an actual functioning adult should know this. Anyone who makes money performing songs about being anti-this and about how bad life is is either a fake or needs serious help. Real life is simply not that way.

All forms of music grow. None stick to one narrow-minded set of ideals. If metal is expected to, then it's expected to be the weakest music in existence, which is simply not the case by any means. There is not good without evil. There is no dirt without cleanliness. There is no Acheron without Edguy.

If i may give an opinion. Facts are facts. Opinions are opinions. Facts can´t be considered facts if they are not proven right. Even if the facts are not true, opinions can exist about the fact.

I hope there´s no small children here :P. Let´s say i belive that Santa exists. It is proven that Santa does not exist ( at least in the manner whe know him ). Even if the fact is true, i may still belive that he is the one who brings us presents.

So if H-T thinks that Edguy is the first one that turned the old gritty Heavy Metal to money making and theatrical shows, then he may think so. No matter what the facts are, if they are true or not, it´s up to the person. No one knows how H-T sees the case.

Personally i love Edguy and i don´t think they are doing this just for the money. They like what they do, they do the best they can and it shows, especially in the live shows. The energy coming from the band is amazing. Again, facts are facts and opinions are opinions.

I was going to start a new thread on the topic (Edguy and Strato), but thought I'd try to wave a wand over this instead.

I have heard songs from Edguy and Stratto. I do not like Rocket Ride (yet, I might come back to it in the future, but Craig's saying it's one of their worst is enough for me) ACTUALLY! scratch that, listening to title track now, and it's pretty good! If I edit this post any more it'll fall apart, so I'll stop now! . So, what Edguy album should I start with? Hellfire Club?

Edit: Or what's Theatre Of Salvation like? Just heard babylon, kickass track. Ultimately, it depends on price, but it'd be nice to get an idea....

And what Stratto?

With Edguy, you can start with any album cause they all kick ass

With Stratovarius, depending on what you've heard or liked, i'd say start anywhere from Dreamspace onwards (which is 4th Dimension, Episode, Visions, Destiny, Infinite, Intermission, Elements Pt. 1 & 2, and the self titled)

I agree with Trooper about all the Edguy albums (minus Rocket Ride). Starting with a bands earlier material is usually the way to go, however.

As for Strato, go with Visions or 4th Dimension. Those are my personal favorites.

Stratovarius is better than Edguy. And for Strato I'd get Fourth Dimension and Visions....those are the only good ones in my opinion. Edguy....none of it is good.

For Edguy don't start from their first album Savage Poetry, the remixed version in 2000 is much better. Kingdom Of Madness is their worst album, not Rocket Ride but that is an opinion. Start with Vain Glory Opera and go up.

For Stratovarius before Kotipelto try Dreamspace, then jump directly to Visions on go forward to Destiny, Infinite and the Elements. That will give a good idea of what Stratovarius are.

The albums I suggested to you to skip bring nothing new or better to the catalog of the bands and can easily be left for last if you like what you hear. Enjoy!!! :D

For Edguy I'd suggest you start on Vainglory Opera or Theatre of Salvation. These are the best two, anyway. Hellfire Club is sort of a bridge between the older sound (that finshed on Mandrake) and Rocket Ride. It's a very good album too.

Stratovarius, I recommend Visions or Episode to begin with. You can get both Elements albums together for around £12 on play.com, but they aren't the best starting point.

I forgot Episode. That was the first album with their longest lasting lineup. It's fast and has some of my all time favorite Strato songs. Get this before 4th Dimension. So, I'd actually say get Visions and Episode before anything else.

I think you have enough opinions about these 2 band's albums, and can start at which ever one you want. But i wouldnt skip any albums...if you like what you hear, you should hear everything they've done

Looks that way! As I said above, it mostly depends on price, but I'm grateful to all who made a suggestion. And I agree about not skipping albums...

I'll buy it if I see it going second hand. But there's no way I'm paying full price for an album that average.

Cheap enough, Zad?

Yep. But I can't buy stuff online due to lack of funds of that sort, annoyingly. So...
