Prior to Reign of Fear, Rage released a full length album under the Avenger moniker. That album is called Avenger - Prayer of Steel (1985). I like that album a lot. I believe it was reissued a few years ago, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes the early years of Rage in particular.

I knew about the existence of it,but what does it sound like?

Like Jussi said, you need to get Trapped! That album is simply essential for Rage's catalogue.

Agreed. It's definitely worth checking out for that raw, thrashy sound.

Reign of Fear is fucking awesome. Their later stuff is meh....Secrets had some awesome songs on it but it also had a good amount of crap..."Talk to Grandpa"???? What the fuck? Prayers of Steel was pretty good, but it had a fair amount of mediocrity. But Reign of Fear is fucking awesome!!!!

"Talk To Grandpa" is kind of dumb lyrically, but it's a killer tune music-wise. Great band, great albums beginning to end.

Okey, so what does "Trapped" sound like. Is it orchestral? Or thrashy and heavy. Will i like Trapped if i loved Soundchaser?

I only own "Soundchaser" and its pretty good. "Great Old Ones" is an awesome song. I haven't really heard much else by them.

For example, don't you find Rage, waaay better than Edguy?

Heavier yes but not better :). However I will say that the latest Edguy id the wrong direction for sure.

I still prefer Theater of Salvation/ Vain Glory opera/ and Hellfire club.
Note : the new Rage -Speak of the dead does lack something to be desired as well. So i would say you are jumping to conclusions on that one. I guess it just depends on which album you pick up and wether or not you like sappy ballads. Rage does not have poppy ballads and Edguy does :) . That deters some people.

It's thrashy. Here's one track that represents the album well:

SOLITARY MAN

Now, you've got 4 posts, you'd better not be one of those posters that ask questions and then disappear.

Well i came here some time ago, at that time i just didn´t find anything to write about. So then i just forgot about this place... I often find myself wanting to write something but don´t know what. That´s why i generally have a low postcount in every forum im in.

Well, it seems Trapped is just the CD i need :P. Somehow that song feels to lack a bit of the energy in Soundchaser. Anyway, sounds great.

I'll definately go with Reign of Fear as my favorite. It has that classic rage sound mixed with some German THrash. Awesome combination.

Imagine that. Are you incapable of liking more than 5 CDs by any one band? Haha. You always seem to like the first few and then say the rest after suck.

Well, it has that 80's thrash production so it's definitely going to have less "crunch" than Soundchaser, still a great band and well worth checking out all their albums.

I'd be lying to you if I said I liked all of their albums. Same thing with Running WIld. I like the first few, but then shit just gets boring after Black Hand Inn. For me Rage gets boring after Secrets in a Weird World.

Well, they did change a bit after that, so I can dig on it.

I've been a fan of the band since a few months before they released XIII. My CD's in order of purchase:

1. Perfect Man
2. End of All Days
3. XIII
4. Ghosts
5. The Missing Link
6. Lingua Mortis
7. Unity
8. Speak of the Dead

In hindsight I may have been better off replacing "The Missing Link" with "Trapped!" and "Unity" with "Welcome to the Other Side". Oh, well... it's a nice collection nonetheless.
