Anyone who doesn't want music and music genres to evolve or people to play what they want isn't worth arguing with anyway. That just demonstrates a complete lack of depth on your part.

Music is about enjoying yourself. Period. it's not about fitting into someone's idea of what something should be. You can not like something. No one's going to tell you you have to like a certain style or whatever, but the fact is that expecting something to fit into a set of guidelines is conformity, which goes against everything metal was founded on - end of story. Your lack of understanding concering the history of metal is astounding.

Oh, and was Bruce Dickinson saying "look at me!" when he used to wear blue spandex on stage?

And you can piss and moan all you want about my opinions, but that doesnt change the fact that Edguy is one of the worst bands on the planet. They have taken something that was for a select few, and transformed it into a money making machine that is pretty much unoffensive unoriginal, and accesable to just about everyone. They don't have the spirit of heavy metal. They're riding the wave and it makes me sick.

So continue to cry about it.

c'mon on! cut the elitist crap out! thanks to bands like Him, Edguy, Korn, System of a Down (etc) metal's recruiting the future metalheads... those bands throw bridges between mainstream youth music & metal and that's, imo, a good thing... that's what Hair Metal & AOR did in the eighties and that certainly helped more underground bands to get exposure beyond their wildest dreams!
So, tell me, is it better if it's only meant for a small circle of "informed" people ? if that's what you think then you're more than ready to jump the Grim Kvlt Black Metal bandwagon ! :roll:

I was actually around when thrash metal came into existance and have seen nearly every original thrash metal band live. I know what metal is about and what the spirit of metal is. How do you know? You invent your own version, pick and choose who does what for what reason (between people doing the same thing), and act as if you actually have any sort of clue. You don't. The spirit of metal is not to go on stage, play it out like they're bad-asses, and then go sip wine and caviar backstage. Yes, I watched bands like Slayer do that back in the day. THAT'S what you call REAL? THAT'S the SPIRIT? At least bands like Edguy are the same people onstage and off. THAT'S the spirit of Heavy Metal - being who you are no matter what anyone thinks. You can accuse Edguy of being part of some massive money-making machine, but there are two FACTS that prove you completely and utterly wrong: 1. They really don't make all that much money, and 2. They are no different when not on stage. They are goofy, colorful, fun-loving people. If that offends you, go hang out with the darkness-faking whores you seem to think are so REAL. Watch them sing about dark themes while laughing their way to the bank for fooling kids into thinking death and depression are cool.

Edguy plays what they want to play. They sell what they sell, and their "rock star" image is an intentional joke. Everyone with half a brain knows it. Is it bad to have a sense of humor in metal? Iron Maiden recorded Cross-Eyed Mary, Nodding Donkey Blues, and an instrumental called Losfer Words. Sabbath recorded Fairies Wear Boots. I could list Anthrax jokes forever. You might think life without humor is a good thing. You might take metal so seriously you can't see the humor in it. That's good for you. Some of us are open-minded adults who don't take ourselves or life too seriously.

If you were Catholic, by the way, you would find plenty to be offended with on Theatre of Salvation and with Tobias' Avantasia. Don't say they haven't pushed anything. How "inoffensive" are Lucifer in Love, Fucking with Fire ( a complete farce, but still), and New Age Messiah (those lyrics are far more offensive than half of what you've been promoting).

And how does blue spandex say "listen to my voice"?

It says Bruce wanted to wear blue spandex. Tobi wants to wear cow and Zebra patterns. Who are you to judge who had the "right" reasons?

You can call them the "worst" band all you want. You can have your opinions. We all do, but don't state them like facts (which is stupid to do in any debate). I've been playing guitar since the early 80s, and I've studied music theory my entire life. If you want to turn this into an intelligent music discussion about who is good at what, I'm all for it, but please bring actual facts (that is supported by more than opinion) to the table. Otherwise, say that you personally like or don't like something. You come accross as arrogant, which is why people respond to you the way they do.

You think the whole image thing is a joke. I find that to be extremely naive of you. I've met, and played with plenty of bands that use the same rationale, and it is total bull shit. I'm not telling you to stop listening to Edguy, I'm just saying that I truly hate their music for my own reasons, and none of your reasons are good enough for me to change my mind.

And Bruce Dickinson could wear spandex and jump around like a monkey because he was in the greatest heavy metal band of all time. Its very difficult to question maiden's integrity, especially in the early years. I can't say the same about Edguy, esepcially in an age where cheesy stage shows and "nostalgia" are seen as cool by scenesters and hipsters.

I've met plenty of Edguy fans at Blind Guardian and Goat Horn shows, these are the same people that tell me Metallica invented thrash, and that In Flames is better than At the Gates. Whether they are right or not is inconsequential, its more the train of thought they use. So you and your butt buddies can claim complete ownage....as stupid as that sounds, but how can you defeat someone who doesnt believe they have lost?

I would never claim Metallica invented anything, I don't really like In Flames, and I think your own rationalization that because many (including myself) believe Bruce is one of the greatest metal vocalists in history gives him the right to act a certian way while others are not allowed to, is asinine. Bruce acted that way before he was recognized by anyone for anything. People do what they want for whatever reasons they want - again, the true spirit of metal.

Those fans you are talking about are more likely thinking the way they do because they are young and only have seen other people talk about the early days of Metallica. It has nothing to do with the fact that they listen to Edguy. I swear, my toddler has a more refined thought process than you do.

I just find it funny that you guys sometimes get bent out of shape for nothing and on the net even.

I mean there are people on this site that hate Kamelot do I care no do they care that I like it no they go to sleep the same way every night I go to sleep the same way every night and they and I do whatever we need to do the next day.It doesn't bother me a bit but sometimes I see stuff like this and say WTF look at that thread that Eyesore made in the gen music forum about that site I went over there and shook my head and wonder why did we slip off of the evolutionary scale.
