You forgot he's not interested, only if I give it a metallish label. Sólstafir actually describe themselves as hardcore, with a reason. If I would have labeled it that, the poor guy would have overlooked it like my other reviewed albums. I needed to start lightly on the readers here, for them to remain insterested, that's why I mislabeled some bands' genres.

Pretty lame that you have to do that, huh? You could spend hours writing a review on a great CD and then someone will come and just undermine all that you wrote by implying that something sucks based on the genre not the music! Ridiculous.

I suggest you accurately label everything you review from now on, fuck what anyone thinks, especially when it's wrong.

What the hell is that supposed to mean, Misha? I'm not the one that has criticized your album review choices. You think I am some blind "metal uber alles" follower? And Solstafir is not hardcore, despite what you or they say. The vocals may be hardcorish, but Hardcore doesn't have slowish 15 minute songs. I first took note of them when you compared them to Agalloch. I respect your reviews, taste, and listen to samples that you provide. I admit I'm not as "open-minded" as you, but that post was an unfair attack.

Looks like the wolves are out today. And to think that I defended both of you earlier? Solstafir is not hardcore.

indeed they're not
does Misha knows anything about hardcore ?
but they have core elements, there's no denying it either... that and post rock/sludge elements that were better left unsaid...
I'm sorry Ken but I still think you label an album you review based on the people who are suposed to read the review... call it what you wish, I call it giving (good) music a chance. 8)

It hurts to be portrayed as a sheep, which is basically what is going on here. I would call Solstafir a bizarre mix of Agalloch and Neurosis, but they are simply uncategorizable. Stefan you know I am not only a metalfan. Remember our Doors conversation?

Hello? I wasn't referring to you, did it seem like I was? I'm sorry. I've never even heard Solstafir, so I wouldn't know, but I do know hardcore so I'm assuming they're not.

I call it absolutely ridiculous! I have integrity, sorry. If someone is so close-minded and ignorant that they'll disregard something without even trying it, again, not my problem. I think it's absolutely retarded that you're essentially asking me to lie in my reviews.

Death metal lacks good bands...

This was an interesting thread. Someone finally had something unkind to say about MR's new darling reviewers. Kind of expected that they would react the way they did...Dee just had fun with it, and Misha got pissy and made sure the guy knew he didn't give a fuck because he isn't closed-minded.

I'm sold!

I think the reason for lack of death metal reviews is a lack of good death metal... only DM album I've liked this year is Decapitated's... the Sceptic album was decent but not great...

So far the only review I've thought was actually bad on this site was the one for Eyes of Fire, but I only read the ones which sound interesting to me, which is like 2-3 a week

Honestly, I generally like your reviews. I might suggest limiting yourself to one a week though, as occassionally it shows when you have spread yourself too thin.

I notice that when you get really prolific, you seem to have a little trouble describing the music without referring to other albums and bands. Obviously, I know music doesn’t exist in a vacuum and that using other bands as reference helps the reader understand what you’re talking about. That said, sometimes (again - when it seems your taking on too many reviews) you lean a bit too much on that crutch.

Again - I like your reviews. The Razorback review was excellent. I loved the personal touch.

OK, yeah, I can see that. When you do multiple reviews you find yourself almost copying what you wrote on the last review. It's not like I'm slacking on the review, I just try and sort of change it up a bit, you know? Like one I'll compare bands, the other I'll do a song-by-song review, etc.. I think that's necessary otherwise I may start treading familiar water, you know? But trust me, I don't like writing that many reviews at once. It's just when bands ask for reviews and no other reviewer steps up I feel bad not replying to the band, so I take the review. Hehehe. I'm so damn dedicated!

IMO all reviews should have a little summary at the end thats like:

Similar to: martyr, necrophagist, death, atheist
Genre: tech death
Overall: good
