Orchid is pretty bad. Some good moments here and there, but not enough to make it a decent album.

I love Orchid! To be honest, I'd take it over Deliverance and Damnation any day. But still "Hit" because I'm a big fan.

*can't be bothered to find appropriate picture to make "fan" gag*

Hit. May not be Metal, but it's still fantastic. Acoustic goodness abounds.

Its only temporary. Cass will be back, but c'mon - T Rex needs some love to.

Well in this duel of wit (not to mention grammatical aptitude) it would appear the best man has won. I applaud you sir, and ask only that I may bask in the reflected glow of your victory.

Phew. I was just about to e-book myself in for a cerebellum transplant, my ears were starting to smoke.

In other words, I would really stop talking, Define. You're setting yourself up for a major fall...

And now for a decent answer: No, I don't like Orchid.

I find it boring, with uninspiring and bland distorted riffs. Yes, there are some great moments, but they are all clean sequences. They are of an astral level (the one in the middle of In Mist She Was Standing, for example), but they're simply not enough.

I'll take Orchid easily over every album released by Opeth in the 21st century. Under the Weeping Moon is quite astral, to use your phrase, as are parts of Forest of October. Plus in Orchid there is some great bass work, and I'd argue Akerfeldt's best harsh vocals. I'm not looking for an argument, as we know this a matter of preference. Just thought I'd address my opinion of Orchid.
