I've changed the title of this thread because I keep finding these fucking 70's rock/stoner rock bands that I think kick ass. Here are a few more:

BLOOD OF THE SUN - HELL ON IT'S KNEES

I was searching for some Las Cruces CDs and stumbled across this band. Apparently they feature a "who's who of Texas doom including former members of Sourvein, Las Cruces, Archie Bunker and Storm of Sunrise." It's also described as a "full onslaught of 70's hard rock heaviness, reminiscent of Deep Purple, prime Grand Funk, Led Zep, Mountain and Robin Trower!" It sounds pretty kick ass to these ears!

Another random band is Witch. I saw their CD at the record store last week, the description of 70's stoner rock was odd considering J. Mascis is in the band. He is Dinosaur Jr., basically. He's the last person I would have picked to be in a stoner rock band. Hahaha. But fuck me if they're not pretty damn good. Listen to the songs at the site below, especially "Seer."

Also check out Kalas while you're there:

They feature Matt Pike from Sleep. I know some of you like that band. It's pretty good.

Check out http://teepeerecords.com/bands/drunkhorse too. I was just listening to them and they sound pretty snazzy, too! I'm in a fucking time warp! Hahaha.

Anyone? Hello? Anyone there?

This thread contradicts that statement! Hahaha. I'm going to look for this Kalas CD tomorrow. I know the Witch CD was in the shop last week. If it's their I'll pick it up.

OK, so I've stumbled upon another band that plays this sort of vintage rock. The band is called Diamond Nights and they mix it up pretty good, they have a slight indie rock sound, but they also have that 70's rock vibe. I'm trying to think of a way to explain what they sound like and all I can come up with is 35% Black Sabbath, 15% Franz Ferdinand, and 50% The Cars, but that's kind of wacky. Hahaha. You decide:

IT'S A SHOKKA (The Black Sabbath sound)
DIRTY THIEF (The Cars sound)
THE GIRL'S ATTRACTIVE (Video) (The Franz Ferdinand sound)
DESTINATION DIAMONDS (Video) (NSFW - Titty Alert!! Funny video)

Thoughts? Not rockin' enough?

Maybe this will be something some of you can dig on. This band is described as "wielding a knee-weakening wall of noise that recalls MELVINS, BATHORY and IRON MAIDEN, SAVIOURS thoroughly execute triple-guitar bewilderment consummated by leagues of thunderous cadence." I'm not sure about the Bathory and Maiden reference, but I hear the Melvins. They sound pretty badass! Their album covers look like death metal covers:

CIRCLE OF SERVANTS BODIES (from their currently available EP)
HOLY SLAUGHTER (from their upcoming debut full-length)

The EP is only $3.99, so I'm buying it. There are two other songs you can hear at their site: http://www.level-plane.com/saviours

No, it's a bit more indie rock than the others, but I like it. Not sure if I'd buy it, though. Good download so far. =)

I would say so. My knowledge of this newer style is basically limited to this thread! Haha. There are a few like Witchcraft and Drunken Horse that I haven't posted about, but there are some really killer bands included in this thread. The Sword are excellent! Give all these bands a shot, you may be surprised.

Here's some Witchcraft, if you're interested. They're a lot more mellow, but excellent nonetheless.

NO ANGEL OR DEMON
CHYLDE OF FIRE (Video)

Also, check out the review I did this week. :D

I have to say, i'm surprised to find myself liking this (witchcraft), its very 70's and the only band i can say i really like from the 70's is the fairport convertion, so yeah, they must be doing something right!!

So exactly what genre are The Sword???

I would say The Sword are like Stoner Doom, or something. Hehehe. Out of all the bands in this thread, Priestess are my favorite. That CD is fucking excellent!.

stoner doom eh??Hmmm, i could see my mates who listen to all this new indie shit really liking this kind of stuff, its quite 'easy' to listen to (compared with metal). i'll have to show them some of these bands!

Priestess are really good to! but i've just listened to so many similar sounding bands i can't remember the names of the ones i liked and didn't like! haha! i'll have to do it again and take notes this time! lol. but thanks for this ken! been a great insight into a genre i have overlooked for so long!

with my experience they'll certainly like the Melvins and Thulsa Doom. Maybe not the heavier stuff like YOB, Electric Wizard, Dopesmoker by Sleep..

You think? Diamond Nights are definitely indie, but I don't think Drunk Horse are. I think the guitar tone kind of makes them sound a bit more that way, it's not heavy enough, you know? I still own nothing by Drunk Horse, I've just heard those clips.

Yeah, I can upload like two different tracks.

I will make this thread the most popular thread on this board!!

Anyway, here's another band to check out. This band is called Burning Saviours and they're a throwback 70's rock band similar to Witchcraft, but even better, I think. You'll hear a lot of Jethro Tull here. They have one albums out now, the second is to be released in June. Check them out, they're damn good.

LILY MARION (from the upcoming Hundus)
SPREAD YOUR WINGS (from their self-titled debut)

Diggit!

Its not indie but it clearly has that influence in their music. I've listened to them a few times since and i think its ok, but i'm always thinking about what i'm going to put on next.
