Any of Friedman or Becker solos in Cacophony's Speed Metal Symphony.

another great guitar performance is Calvary by Quicksilver Messenger's Service (1969)... very trippy ! 8)

Adrian Smith's in Stranger in a Strange Land are pretty awesome. Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton also do a bang-up job on Phantom of the Opera. Also Glenn and KK on Ram it Down.

And....like a million other solos.

Based on the list, I'd say Crazy Train.

I'm not sure what my favorite solo is, but the one in Rainbow in the Dark has to be in my top 5 somewhere.

From that list, which isnt very good i might add, no one beat DRAGONFORCE for awesome solos.

I love the (very short) solo Kirk does on "The Shortest Straw"

I also think The Shortest Straw is the best Metallica song for a solo. That plus The Frayed Ends Of Sanity....ah crap, in fact the whole damn Justice Album is full of Metallica's best solos

I think plenty of people beat Dragonforce for awesome solos. :P I like Dragonforce, but strangely I've never been impressed by their lead parts. Wintersun and Sonata Artica pwn them in that regard, say my limited Power Metal experience.

And CoB played some phenomenal solos when I saw them live as well :D

This list sucks a massive amount of Donkey balls.

Megadeth-Hangar 18. The whole song is basically a solo!

The guitar solo in Testament's "Return To Serenity" is the best solo ever written! It's fucking awesome!

The Ritual had a really awesome solo. Probably my favorite Testament solo.

Anyway, here are some of my other all time favorite solos that have not been listed yet (so yes, Hangar 18 would be one of my favorites too):

Slayer - Divine Intervention (This song has gotta have THE most evil sounding guitar solo ever written)

Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss (my vote for THE best solo ever written)

Metallica - Of Wolf And Man (yeah, the Black Album is pretty overrated, but this song's solo just totally kicked ass).

Pantera - Psycho Holiday (this solo and the entire song just reek of Clint Eastwood).

Megadeth - Family Tree (this song's solo is just so damn catchy! It shows that a good solo doesn't necessarily need to be overly flashy or technical)

In Flames - The Hive (I especially love the beginning of this solo where it just totally throws you off guard)

Iced Earth - Watching Over Me (probably the most uplifting guitar solo I have ever heard)

Anthrax - Packaged Rebellion (not much to say except that both the song and the solo kick some serious ass!)

Ozzy Osbourne - S.I.N (Read above)

I've got to say, Safe Home by Anthrax is pretty far from being a great song, but the solo is excellent.

Me too. Anyone who can't hum the theme from Peaches en Regalia upon request has wasted their time on earth

You're just sayin that because you're hot for Pearl Loaf!

Err, Pearl Ian I guess now.

Actually, I've never seen her, so she could very well be hot. Or just a chick version of Meat Loaf.

If memory serves, she's a skinny blonde.
