Primal Fear's entire career is based on trying to make Painkiller.

And failing at the attempt.

And even more than failing.

I see no filler on Painkiller, nor selfcopied riffs. The only song in there that, for some reason, I don't like that much is Metal Meltdown, but the rest are all killers. Like Orion, I think it's probably the greatest heavy metal album.

However, I'm undecided. I find Sad Wings Of Destiny equally godly, just in totally different ways. I guess I'm a man of the extremes: my favourites are their mellowest and their angriest.

Except that their mellowest and their angriest are Rocka Rolla and Jugulator.

OK, I should say MY favourite top 4 Priest albums. People here have already mentioned Turbo and Ram It Down. And i think Demolition is great, love Rippers vocals. Not into their 70's material although there are a few good songs sprinkled about

I agree with the trooper(hope you don't mind me calling you that  ) once it comes to Demoliton. Yes, Demolition was a different kind of album. Ripper is a fantastic vocalist and if anyone comes close to perfecting the Halford scream, it's Ripper, an able replacement for Rob. Coming to the album, except for instances where i felt some songs were dragged a little too much, i feel demolition is a very strong album. I'd give it an 85/100.

Thanks for the backup, Serpent, i know i am very much on my own when it comes to praising Demolition. Sure it isnt your traditional Priest sound, but who cares. I take each album as i hear it, and i liked what i heard on that album. I cant say the same thing for Jugulator, however. Probably my most disliked Priest album.

As i am not into their 70's material, our views on Priest as a whole are very different. Some people consider SWOD to be their favourite or in their top 5, but i have it placed right next to Jugulator, on the bottom of the list.

I said in my previous post that for me, there is only a sprinkle of good songs from SWOD to Point Of Entry (with the exception of British Steel, as i liked almost all of that album) before i much prefer Screaming For Vengeance and onwards.

These songs include:

Troubleshooter (Point Of Entry)
Starbreaker (Sin After Sin)
Beyond The Realms Of Death (Stained Class)
Heading Out To The Highway (Point Of Entry)
Delivering The Goods (Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine)
Race With The Devil (Sin After Sin)
Solar Angels (Point Of Entry)
Burnin' Up (Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine)
Better By You Better Than Me (Stained Class)
Desert Plains (Point Of Entry)
The Green Manalishi (Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine)
Diamonds And Rust (Sin After Sin)

Nice list! BTW, what about Exciter, Saints in Hell, Stained Class, Sinner, Dissident Agressor, The Ripper, Tyrant, Genocide?

If it aint on that list, i didnt like it

It's a tough call. Either Defenders of the Faith or Painikiller would take the the top spot for me. I do know that Painkiller is my favourite Priest song.

And to whoever said Demolition was good, I have to say that One on One is a kick ass song.

Yeah, that's true, but I was sort of eliminating those two, because they are so different from the rest of their work, they're like some kind of aliens in Priest's discography (and Demolition also).

Or, like me, simply every song off their seventies albums.

Painkiller is probably their hardest album, but if I was held at knifpoint and demanded to pick one best album, I'd have to pick Defenders of the Faith, for two reasons.

The first reason is personal: it was on the Defenders tour I first saw Priest live, so I have nostaligic feelings toward the album.

The second reason is because of one song: The Sentinel. The Sentinel is, IMO, the single best Priest song. It has fantastic riff, solos, and some of the best (if not THE best) vocals Halford has ever recorded.

Somehow it's easier for me to choose my fav songs than for me to choose my fav albums.
