Even the jokes connected to hip hop makes me feel sick.

Here's footage of Metallica playing "Hole In The Sky" and "Iron Man." Musically they sound tight, "Hole In The Sky" isn't that great because James tries to sing in a higher pitch, akin to Ozzy, but he hits a few bum notes. He probably wasn't warmed up since he sounds really good on "Iron Man."

Not that you care.

I don't care, per se, but I am interested. To be honest I'd rather James had just used his usual tone, rather than make an arse of himself trying to copy Ozzy.

Still, nowadays Hetfield impersonating Ozzy > Ozzy

Although it seems like James has eaten a few too many pies in recent months.

I'd like to find the idiot who convinced Hetfield he can actually sing. That castrated cat wailing I would call anything but singing. Now he can't even do his gruff voice anymore.

I'm with you. I HATE the metallica vocals.

sorry about the triple posts, but I have to add something about the HoF. They certainly took their time inducting Black Sabbath. Now for Alice Cooper... he must have done something awful... i bet blink 182 will be in before him. No, here's what they'll do: Alice Cooper, the Sex Pistols and my band will be inducted all on the same day... and then the world will end...

They sounded pretty good. Didnt think the vocals were that bad. Maybe in some parts, but James hasnt always been that good vocally in live performances

James' heavy vocals are excellent! His singing voice is OK. He should go back to the old style.

James's voice always sounds worse live than in Metallica's studio albums. I actually have a live version of Disposable Heroes from June, 1993 burned on CD and his voice sounded just as bad then as it does now (if not worse).

I think recording vocals in studio is probably easier than recording them live because of the way music is usually mixed. Each instrument, including vocals, is recorded seperately. The vocals are usually the last thing recorded in a song. By contrast, live, James has to sing AND play rhythm guitar. So that makes things a little more difficult for him.

I heard on ReLoad, Bob Rock actually used quite a few studio tricks on James's voice. For example, James couldn't hit some of the high notes in Attitude so Bob Rock had him sing those parts at a slower tempo and then he sped them up with his sound mixer so that they would be at the right pitch and tempo. If you listen closely to some parts of that song, you'll notice this.

Yeah, but such a thing is certainly nothing uncommon. Also, with Dyer's Eve, I heard the way Lars' drum tracks were recorded was that they were recorded in small chunks and then strung together when the song was being mixed.

They tried to play Dyer's Eve once live, and by all accounts, failed miserably at it.

I heard it was three tracks running simultaneously. Also that they had a session guy in playing the harder parts on the Ride the Lightning. The moral: Lars sucks.

*refers you to Bob Rock*

Of course, I agree.

I know. The amount of musicianship in the music industry seems to be inversely proportional to the amount of production technology. Sad. And gay.
