A surprisingly divisive question..

I'm not going to put every album in here, although someone surprised me by saying Dehumanizer should be in the classics section ..

Oh yeah.. my favorite is Vol. 4 for the sheer creativity of some of the riffs.

Heaven and Hell. Mob Rules is up there for me as well, but Heaven and Hell wins the prize for me. As I said in another thread, that isn’t meant to discredit the Ozzy era whatsoever. From beginning to end, H&H fits my tastes to a tee. For me, the Ozzy albums contain some gem tracks, but some eclectic, oddball tracks that just don’t do it for me. When evaluating the album as a whole, I have to go with H&H. You guys can probably tell from my reviews that I’m a big traditional metal fan, and H&H is a fabulous traditional metal album start to finish. There is no doubt that the Ozzy era of Sabbath is one of the most prolific influences on metal; I won’t ever disagree with that. However, the Dio / Ozzy eras of Sabbath of vastly different, with the Dio era a much better fit for my personal tastes.

By the way, Born Again with Ian Gillan on vox is a cool album as well.

Dehumanizer was the first Sabbath album i picked up. I think that's among the best that i've heard of Sabbath, the other one being Headless Cross(two of my fav albums). I think Forbidden comes close too. I would really like to see a list of all Sabbath albums put out and then votes made. But i understand there are some limitations.

Though I have sucked down many a joint to Ozzy era Sabbath, Mob Rules is their best work without a doubt. The vocals of Ronnie James Dio are insane especially on the title track. One of my favorite scenes of the animated film Heavy Metal was the battle scene where the mutants charge the village and that song is playing in the background. HEAVY FUCKIN' METAL!!

My only points against the Dio era stuff is that there are a some average souding formula tracks. IMO Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea, The Mob Rules, or even Falling of the Edge of the World are some of the best songs they or anyone has ever done. We used to have a heavy metal show on Friday nights (Z99 - Red Deer) that would invariably play The Mob Rules.. and the first time I heard it I couldn't believe my ears.

I'm not really familiarized with the Ozzy era of Black Sabbath, but I have two samplers out of that period and I know most non-Ozzy albums and as far as I can decide "Heaven and Hell" for me is by far the best Sabbath album.

"Lonely is the Word" still delivers goosebumps to me.

I'm not going to vote as I only own four of those albums. However if I were to vote, it would be a close-run thing between H&H and the debut record.

well, I didn't like it... but then, I don't enjoy anime that much but it looked to me like a draft of what a good anime is...
