Do you guys like anything by any band?

My favourite Slayer album would be Seasons in the Abyss, I find it holds an excellent middle ground between the furious Reign in Blood and the more mid-tempo South of Heaven.

I am starting to wonder this myself. Not to mention ANYTHING else for that matter. It's just easier to say that everything sucks and is gay, because that way you won't have to defend anything.

I'd never heard anything from Divine Intervention until about a month ago when I saw one of the videos on MTV2. Tom was singing - not his usual thing, but actually singing. It was pretty disconcerting. Confused

wait what? there was different singing on Divine Intervention? Man I must not pay attention at all.

It's called 'having standards.'

I really enjoyed South of Heaven and too an extent liked all their albums through Seasons, but I'm not interested in this.

I don't know, I've only heard that one song - he was alternating between his usual scream and something more 'melodic' (term used loosely).

Yeah... sit yourselves down, youngsters, and I shall tell you a tale. Once there was a wise old man called Ken, who was always right. The problem was that all the young kids didn't realise this, and went about saying that they didn't like Slayer. Fortunately, they got older, and realised that Ken was right all along.

The end.

*bored at work*

I never said that GHUA was bad, I just said hopefully this is better.

Hey you're right, God Hates Us All wasn't bad - it was fucking terrible.

+1

Slayer better get back with a top notch album or they're going in all metalheads' hearts the way In Flames, CoB or Metallica did... considering Kerry Ling's musical taste I kinda doubt it but it's true he never was the main songwriter in Slayer so, who knows ?

I want a modern South Of Heaven ! 8)

NP
Emilie Simon "st"
(her 1rst album... excellent ! 8) )

+2

A modern South Of Heaven would be great (not that modern actually)

I dont know why so many people praise reign in blood as the ultimate thrash album, its not even slayers best album it has a lot of fillers IMO.

Yeah, about half of the songs are forgettable after a few years. Postmortem/Raining Blood still rules supreme for me.

Reign In Blood is their major label debut, add a major marketing team pushing it as the fastest greatest album ever made, and you'll get one of the most hyped up albums ever !

Oh gee, I forgot the smiley.

Ken, I don't love everything. I hate a good deal of things. This is because a good deal of everything is bad. Slayer is among these bad things. It's pretty simple, huh?

I think Eyesore was just pointing out that alot of things around here, music and otherwise meet with overly negative responses. It's ok to criticise something, but sometimes people are so hateful towards a band or whatever that it makes me wonder if there isn't more to the story.

The worst tendency is to pick a favorite, and then put down all the rest to defend your fav.

Gave up on them after Divine Intervention. Even with Lombardo I don't see the magic happening again. Kerry King, unfortunately, listens to shit these days, and lets said shit creep into the music he writes. I don't see how it could be worse than God Hates Us All though, so there's always that........I guess. :?

Lombardo should stick with Grip Inc. & Fantômas... those two bands are much better than Slayer was on their two last albums and better than anything Slayer will release in the future

NP
Philip Glass "Dracula"
(1999 soundtrack for the 1931 Todd Browning/Bela Lugosi classic)

But Dave cannot really show his skills in Fantomas.

sure he can ! and he does !
plus he also has Grip Inc. 8)

NP
Polar Bear "Dim Lit"
(good jazz ! thx Charles 8) )

I've only heard Fantomas and no he can't. You can't possibly show me a better drumwork in the Fantomas discography than say Angel of Death. You're just saying that because you like Fantomas better.

no, I'm saying that because it's true... there are many better drum parts in Fantômas than those he played in Slayer... check out Director's Cut or Suspended Animation... 8)

NP
Emilie Simon "Végétal"
(wOOt, I can't get enough of it !)

Does anybody care about the next Slayer album?

Nope.

I don't see why people think Lombardo will do something that Paul Bostaph couldn't. Bostaph was and is a great drummer, he wasn't the problem, the songwriting was.

Fo' real.

And Eyesore, give me a break. Inexperience? I suppose it's just good taste though when you hate a band because they are too brutal right?

Nobody in this thread was overly hateful. Many (including me, who's post is apparently what Eyesore replied to) said that Slayer was a good band, though overrated, and that their latest output has sucked, which nearly all seem to agree with. Id est, Eyersore is doing what he always does: Bitching about people not having the exact same tastes that he does.
