This is from the metallica newsletter

So there we are, hanging out at HQ getting ready for our first visit to South Africa, and a call comes in wondering if we can leave a few days early and stop by New York to induct a bunch of guys from Birmingham, England (they're called Black Sabbath, you might've heard of them) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It took us all of 3/4 of a second to say "fuck yeah!!"

Black Sabbath wrote the book on heavy music, and like many other snot-nosed kids, we read it religiously over and over again. For all of us in Metallica, Black Sabbath are a major influence not only on our music, but on our lives, and as you can imagine, we're psyched to join Bill, Geezer, Ozzy, and Tony for the induction ceremony on Monday, March 13.

Not only will we be inducting Sabbath, we are going to make a humble attempt at playing some of their songs live in front of the gathered masses, including, most humbling of all, the four members of the band themselves

Your thoughts? Did the powers that be make the right choice here asking the 'Tallica boys induct a band like Black Sabbath into the rock n roll hall of fame?

Why not? I mean it's not like they were going to pick some underground metal band.

As much as I don't like Metallica, I'm not objecting.

I'm not saying that they shouldnt have chosen Metallica, it would be a huge honour for them to induct Black Sabbath. Just wondering if there could have been alternatives, possibly another band from that era which could do the job.

Just throwing out options...

Nothing wrong with Metallica doing the ceremony.. but James singing some Black Sabbath songs? I wouldn't be looking forward to it.

Meh. Whatever. Ozzy and Iommi could give a less shit about the whole thing, so why should we care. I love Sabbath, but the Hall of Fame is a joke anyways. Half of the shit in there isn't even Rock, and for it to take this long to recognize Sabbath just shows the ignorance and bias the whole Induction Board has against Metal.

I don't want any metal bands in the Rock in Roll Hall of Fame, because metal is not rock. Of couse, as you said, half of the bands in the hall aren't rock either.

They should have asked Iron Maiden to do it.

You'd never get Priest to give credit to anyone else for starting Metal.

I used to think the Osbournes were a braindead, hasbeen camera whores, but I guess 700 rock experts can't be wrong.

Gice Metallica some credit. At least they still respect their metal roots enough to do something like this. Despite all that they've pulled off these past fifteen years.

Indeed, they respect the grassroots metal scene so much that Lars listens to A7X and categorically nobody else...

Yeah, but what can I say? You'd think Metallica would want nothing to do with bands like Black Sabbath anymore. But to induct them into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame definitely seems pleasantly out of character for them.

What?

"Hey Lars, Jim, do you want to get paid to show up at a flashy ceremony where there will be lots of cameras for you to talk into? Just say Black Sabbath were important to you and shit. Cool, see you there."

I wouldn't even say that shows they have respect for metal. Many non-metalheads are BS fans.

"War piiiiiiiiiiiigs, FUCK yeah!"

James always says fuck before the yeah

So it would be like:

James: Black Sabbath, baby.....Fuck Yeah!
Lars: To any of you mother fuckers trying to record us playing right now, you can mother fuckin' forget it or risk gettin' a mother fucken lawsuit....

and so on and so forth....
