I'm listening to Painkiller and I have to agree with some that say it's without a doubt the greatest JP album of all time.I mean it kicks fucking ass just blast out the title track out loud and see why this is their best in their catalog.

Of course. JP has lots of killer albums but come on, it's Painkiller, one of, if not the best heavy metal album of all time.

Ah, fuck! Change mine to a Yes. I read it as "Greatest Metal Album of All-Time" or something. Yes, best Judas Priest!

I think I could probably agree with that. Or at least it represents most what I like about Priest..

I haven't heard it but I'm wary. Many folks here claim that Heaven and Hell is the most awesome ball-blasting metal/Sabbath album in the known universe. I placed it on order and finally got it into my grubby little hands. The verdict? Put it this way, Mob Rules is a lot better, yet it's a pretty average album itself.

I've voted no... the best judas studio album, in my opinion, is:

But the Judas album I really love is:

And Screaming For Vengeance doesn't? Pain and Pleasure and Fever drag that album down (but its still great).

Painkiller is their best as far as I'm concerned, but Sad Wings runs it close. What tracks on Painkiller would you call filler?

here's the deal : I think Painkiller has two awesome songs : Painkiller & Touch of Evil and that the rest of the album goes from average to acceptable... not what I would call a classic...
imo, Judas were better before Scott Dravis crazy double bass came in. 8)

What's even more great, is the time painkiller was released. Back then metal was almost dead (sales-wise), grunge was at its peak, and big bands like Metallica started to follow suit (Black Album). So everyone was waiting for the Priest's next move, and here comes an album with blazing guitars and screaming vocals that sent all mellowed out grunge crybabies back to the marihuana pit that spawned them!! And so real metal survives till today and we can talk about it in this lovely forum :)

I've only heard Painkiller, so I can't really vote. It's a very good album, though.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Painkiller is not just the best JP album of all time, but among THE BEST metal album of all time. The same year, another metal giant, Iron Maiden released an album No Prayer For The Dying and Painkiller beats the living daylights out of that album.

But some people love those songs.. I particularly love some of the vocals on Fever.

Essentially I agree with Stefan.. Painkiller has a lot of energy (and sounds pretty damn good loud), but has only 2 or 3 bonafide JP originals. The rest are kind of 'christ guys, did you have to use the same riff again?'. Screaming for Vengeance was their creative peak.
