Now this is some fucking killer death metal! I heard this band through Dan Swano's messageboard. He did guest vocals on their first demo so someone posted about it. Anyway, I checked out their site and their tunes just last night, and just paid for their two demos.

I'm not a fan of extreme death metal, that super-fast shit that's just snarebasssnarebasssnarebass a million miles an hour with equally fast guitar playing and then some asshole grumbling super-deep indecipherable gibberish over it all. That's not my thing, but I can dig on the stuff that's more dynamic and actually has some groove to it and melody, etc..

So Canopy come bearing exactly what I like in a death metal band. Dynamics, heaviness, groove, and only brief flashes of that extreme style. Think Edge Of Sanity, a good band to compare them to.

Will And Perception sounds excellent, it sounds like it will be better than During Day One, but that one still sounds very good. If anyone is interested in their During Day One demo get it now! I e-mailed two people in the band and one said they had five left, the other said three. Not sure which is right, but I grabbed one of them so there's either four or two left, depending on whether or not someone else has bought any. Good prices for US residents, too. So check them out:

From the During Day One demo:

COMMON WALLS
DURING DAY ONE

From the Will And Perception demo:

DECIPHER
FOR THE SICKENED VOICE TO HEAR
WILL

Extras:

TWILIGHT (Live Video) (Edge Of Sanity cover, zip file)

Listening now...not bad at all. Bit repetetive, perhaps.

It's alright. Still think it's a bit repetetive...

I honestly don't see how this can be taken as repetitive, there are some nice shifts here., although now that I have the CD "During Day One" is the worst song on that EP.

Hmm.... This is pretty good. I prefer my death metal to be brutal, but this is definitely enjoyable. Its kind of doom deathy (at least the song I'm listening to is).

A review of During Day One will be up tomorrow. I'll do Will And Perception soon. They're really good, Will And Perception is much better, though.

I'll try it again, but the intros just seem too...repetitive. Not your fault. :P
