 it's my fav' of theirs...

and to whoever said Virgin Steele... dude, they made pretty crappy albums (hair metal) in the 80's... :?

Dude, I know every VS album by heart

I don't care if they played Hair Metal (as you call it) or Barbaric Romantic Operas. I love this band and it's my favourite. I like the albums from the 80's. And it's not like they played Hair Metal. Yes, I agree, they had some softer songs (songs, not albums!!!), but their albums consisted of both: huge epic songs and some American Hard Rock. Don't get me wrong, I prefer albums from the 90's but I also love those from the 80's :)

Hey you in the back thar, I like IX Equilibrium. Even though its my least favourite by them I think it rules and breaks boundaries in terms of complex music .

What about Behemoth? Has anybody mentioned them yet? I haven't heard everything they've done, but everything I have heard ranges from good to awesome. I'm yet to hear anything bad by them.

Very good band. Actually I prefer their Black Metal albums to what they're doing now, but undoubtedly they're in the first league of extreme Metal. :)

I'm yet to hear Prometheus, but I thought IX was very under par. Sure, it has its moments, but Ihsahn (how the hell do you pronounce that? I always said Ih-sarn, until I heard someone say yeeeshian) 's clean vox are terrible, and some of the songs just aren't there.

Great thread, looks like I missed most of the fun.

My choices:
Sleep
Nevermore
Sodom
Amon Amarth
Deathspell Omega
Drudkh
High on Fire

Are you crazy? That release totally rules the hotpants off of a 1988 Scott Ian.

I knew somebody would ask that. I hate Ravishing Grimness and Plaguewielder. Darkthrone is the best band ever, but these two releases aren't equal to their awesomeness.

I didn't say I disliked it, just that a) it's not worthy of Emperor, imo, and b) Ihsahn's (looks like no-one else knows how to say it either!) screetchy clean vocals are fucking terrible.
