With the recent talk of Grave Digger and Oratory it made me think of Rebellion. I'm not sure how many people here have heard this band, but they're pretty kick ass. They're a German power metal band, but more gritty and heavy, rather than fast and anthemic like a lot of German power metal bands, though they're not averse to playing that style here and there.

Uwe Lulis and Tomi Gottlich were both previously in Grave Digger, they formed this band after they left. Their first album was a concept album called Shakespeare's Macbeth: A Tragedy In Steel. It's a killer album! Their second album, Born A Rebel, is equally as good, but not a concept album and has more of a traditional metal sound. Their latest album is called Sagas Of Iceland and it appears to be a concept album, as well, but I don't own this one yet. The MP3s on their site are killer, though! Give them a shot:

Taken from Shakespeare's Macbeth: A Tragedy In Steel

THE PROPHECY
HUSBANDRY IN HEAVEN (feat. Ana Lara of Oratory)
THE DEAD ARISE
DISDAINING FORTUNE

Taken from Born A Rebel

ADRENALIN
BORN A REBEL

Taken from Sagas Of Iceland

YNGLINGA SAGA
RAGNHILD'S DREAM
THE SONS OF THE DRAGON SLAYER
CANUTE THE GREAT

Listening to The Prophecy right now. I remember these guys. I checked them out after a review from this sight I believe. Anyway, the only thing I have trouble with is the vocalist. He has that deeper tone that usually turns me away from the rest of the album, but the music is definitely heavy and well written. Overall its decent stuff.

I'm no Grave Digger expert, but aren't they similar? I could be thinking of a different band right now, though. I think Rebellion kick ass, one of my favorite power metal bands. I'm more of a fan of the mid-range vocalists than the balls-in-a-vice type.

Now that I think of it, listen to the second album and the new one, the vocals are different from how they're sung on this song.

Can def. see the grave digger influence. Sounds real good. This sounds like a good disc to have in the car. good recommendation. The music reminds me somewhat of a band named Zandelle. Just the music though not the vocals.

Zandelle? Ridiculous! I didn't think anyone would know them here! Booyakasha! Respek! Their new album, Vengeance Rising, will be out shortly. They completed it in December.

I don't hear the resemblance here, but Zandelle are definitely a great US power metal band.

I listened to Zandelle a few years ago (about 6 songs). Wasn't very impressed.

I like Zandelle live. I dont like Zandelle studio albums. I have seen Zandelle live about 50 times. I hear the resemblance in the gallop. they have a similar chugga sound to their bass. i realize that is a pretty generic thing for power metal, but there is something there.

On an offnote, during one live show at L'amour in brooklyn, i saw the lead singer of Zandelle leave with the hottest chinese girl i have ever seen in my life.

Hehehe.

I agree their album could be better production-wise, but still not bad in my book. Nothing mindblowing, nothing new. Just good, solid power metal.

i have met all the guys from Zandelle. My Roommate is in a band and they shared teh same recording studio. they are actually really nice guys. I think most of those guys were in another band called Gothic Knights. the name definetly had teh word Knights in it. they were all from Brooklyn too. Zandelle is very very good at live shows. the live version of Warlords of Steel is great.

Man, I have to get Sagas Of Iceland. This "Ynglinga Saga" song is fucking awesome, one of the best tunes I've heard in a good while. I've been reading reviews of this album and they've all seemed to give it an awesome review.
