They made it so I can't stand bands that resort to a simple riff chugchug during the verses, it just bores me to tears. It's terrible, people always say I ignore metal classics like Iron Maiden & Metallica & Megadeth when I just can't stand them :(

The responses to this thread's original post, though expected, are flippin hilarious.

Oh, and not to throw wood on the fire, but...

noodles, your post has obliterated any and all respect for your metal knowledge. Please leave behind your dignity and exit the forum immediately.

Listen to Kittie, that's real metal!

(I'll be quite honest, I'm not sure what the initial thread is all about)

It's about how a man, a simple man who likes the complexity of Meshuggah, can no longer appreciate what he's left behind because of it. He looketh back on Sodom, and lo, it be a smoldering ruin, nothing left to discover, all knowledge hath been pillaged accordingly. Be your memories a pile of ash spread through the world on winds of change.

Seriously, though, appreciating stuff like Meshuggah doesn't mean you can't like Maiden. That's like saying you can't study Greco-Roman art because you've seen the Mona Lisa, or you can't read Chaucer because you've read Milton. Everything has its own charms and its own value, and although the genre as a whole may change and innovate, it doesn't negate the quality of what came before.

Well, what was the music seen like fifty years ago. I can almost guarantee I don't like anything from the thirties, forties, or fifties.

Yea kinda. It's not more of a "can't" thing, its just the chugga-chugga thing so many nwobhm and thrash bands do during verses bores me :(

I find Nevermore and Arsis to be the suck, and NWOBHM in general to be absolutely awesome. I'd say that Meshuggah ruined thrash for me, not traditional metal..

I always enjoy when people say they don't like "classic" metal bands and everyone gets so pissed off.

Anyhow, I can think of a lot of boring 80s bands, but Metallica and Maiden aren't among them. I don't see how And Justice for All and Seventh Son of A Seventh Son are simple "chuga-chuga" metal.

Seventh son of a seventh son is actually pretty good. And I don't mean the whole album in general, just like during the vocals's verses (usually theres a guitar harmony for the chorus), the guitars usually play something mind numbingly boring.
