Cool. I find Godflesh to be quite anthemic, in a strange way.

It's 3rd on my to buy list, allthough I haven't seen it anywhere yet.
When I do, I'll use the old nifty hide it in another section behind other cds trick to stop someone else buying it before me. 8)

It took me 8 months to re-find The Bezerker. Heehee.

Fantastic review of great album, Aaron. This one has managed to stay in steady rotation in my CD player for years.

I felt like that the first tme I listened. Boring and never changing music but after I discovered real black metal I could appreciate this album too. Repetative music can suck or be hypnotizingly beautiful. This album is the god of the latter category.

after reading this review i think ill be staying away from this album, sounds horrifying and inhuman, i'll just stick with some maiden and a dash of liquid tension opeth...you know, the happy stuff

A really great album.
The first time I listened, I thought "What the hell is this shit?" (Que coño es esta mierda, in spanish), but after 3 listens, I really appreciate that symphony of the industrial era. And now, when I'm in certain mood, I listen to Godflesh, specially Steetcleaner and Pure.
Not an easy album (especialy for the happy side of metal fans) but a great one.

Agreed with other comments here. Hard to enjoy but worth it.

I feel like digging up some old threads today.. I don't find this record a hard listen at all. Actually it struck me as a great album already when it ran me over the first time. Great in all it's devastating glory.

However, I don't quite understand where the grind and certainly not the -core enters the equation. The relatively short lyrics? The vocal delivery? Maybe I just don't know enough about grind.

Grind has a lot to do with repetitive minimalism. Or that's one interpretation of it.

I've listened to this a couple times now and I like it quite a bit. Very interesting album.

@ Dead Machine

Ok.. Just my inadequate knowledge about grind then..
